RSC "Overhauling" question...

Hey all. I see the word "overhauling" thrown around on here a lot... what exactly does that mean? When you send your Rolex in for service every 4-5 years, do they update parts? Like, for instance, any chance of a 14060M coming back with SELs? I know that my dad once sent his 1967 Explorer in and it came back with a sapphire crystal. Just curious!

I don't think RSC will create a Frankenstein watch for you when you send it in. They are too reputable to do this.

An "overhaul" means RSC will replace any part with original replacement parts only. RSC would never install parts not originally associated with that particular watch [with rare exception]. In fact, RSC will refuse to work on a watch unless the owner agreed to have everything replace back to original specs.

my late uncle was a master watchmaker and used to service all high end watches. overhaul means they take all parts out, wash it and reassemble it. what i still dont know is why they need to wash it in pieces...they could wash it together, then lubricate it and adjust it.
as to service, my novice advice is dont send it for service as long as it works fine. you could easily have a chance to wear your watch for 10 years or more...
