Opinion on 16014
Longtime lurker here but recently I've been interested in buying a birthyear watch and I came across this DateJust 16014 which I like. But before I buy I wanted to run it by the immensely knowledgeable people on this forum to see if it looks ok.
The watch is from the 80's and the sellers says its all original the price is around CDN$3800 which I'm wondering if its a good price as well, here are some pics for reference. Thank you all for your help. dj_1.jpg dj_2.jpg dj_3.jpg |

The watch looks good but the bezel has lost it's sharpness and the bracelet only has 18 links which is very small, had 22 from the factory. You need to see inside the case back to check for corrosion. It has a very nice linen dial.
The price seems high should be in the low 2k US range in that condition. If it's corroded move on. |

It's difficult to surmise the outward condition of this watch because the pics are quite soft. That is, if the images were in sharp focus it would reveal the degree of wear (acceptable or unacceptable) on the WG fluted bezel. The dial looks fine. Case looks decent, perhaps it's been polished or it might be soft due to everyday wear. As Richard Carver said, inquire about the bracelet links if you pursue this purchase. Yes, if possible, try to get some pics of the movement. Also, inquire about the service history. Price-wise if you were to determine that this watch is in good vintage condition, and it had box and papers, 3800 CAD/2900 US would be a very good price, IMO. If it's only the watch and bracelet, I'd try to negotiate it down around 15%. ___________ Instagram: @onthedial |

Thanks for all the input everyone. Just to give an update I'm probably gonna be passing on this watch, not really satisfied with some of the answers I'm getting from the seller. The dial is really what attracts me to this so much, really like the linen dial.
Well the hunt goes on... |

There are several loose linen dials on ebay silver and gold, 4 digit and 5 digit refs. When you want a specific dial it's sometimes best to buy the dial which frees you to buy the best watch regardless of dial.
Don't let the 'originality nazis' dissuade you, there are very, very few original vintage Rolex around. As long as it's all Rolex, it's fine. A very nice 16030/14/00 with a perfect silver linen will be it's own reward. :) http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_from...+dial&_sacat=0 pretty sure the 59.95 silver is a repaint |
