Help With Sticker!
HI all, I recently purchased a mint 18238. It still has the green sticker on the case back. I would like to remove it, but it is really stuck on and it is actually quite thick, almost like it was made of wax. Nothing at all like the thin clear stickers you see today. I cannot get it off with my fingers and I don't want to take a blunt knife or object to scrape it off out of fear of scratching the case back.
I was thinking of soaking the watch in warm water to see if that helps. (it had a full service two months ago so WR is not a problem) Does anyone have any other advice? Thanks! Nick

Just make sure whatever you use doesn't get on any of the seals. Goo-gone or wd-40. They both remove glue.

Peel the sticker, then rub with your finger to get the bulk of the adhesive off. Finally, acetone nail polish remover or goo gone with a q-tip. Keep the adhesive and remover out of the knurls. Then, clean well with soap & water.

Maybe a hair dryer to soften up the glue and then peel it off? That's what I do with the stickers on the car including the free advertisement metal stick-ons the dealer puts on.

If it's a factory case-back sticker, there is no harm in leaving it stay, IMO. If one is worried about "gunk" then there is no harm in giving it a (gentle) bath. Although, if the watch is truly "mint" as described, I doubt there is much "gunk" accumulated to begin with. Leaving the sticker intact: A. Serves to protect the case-back from scratches. B. Can only help WRT to value, if the OP were to ever consider selling it (many folks actually put a clear plastic sticker over the factory sticker to help preserve it). YMMV... ![]() |

Put a piece of strong masking tape over it, rub it down then peel the masking tape away, sticker should come away with it. Do the same when removing factory protection film on a new watch rather than trying to peel up corners. The pros use a thin rubber thimble when removing factory stickers.

Love the thick green sticker and if it were clean and intact I would leave it as I did on my first and only Rolex that came with it.
The hysteria about goo and germs is pure rubbish imho. I enjoy the fact that it protects the case back from the bracelet when the watch is not on the wrist. But sounds like you started peeling already so get it off. I saw something about clean effective sticker removal on lifehack IG feed in the last few weeks if you want to browse their site for it. ![]()

Thanks all, first their wasn't much goo or grime, the watch was mint. I soaked it in warm water with dish soap. There was a plastic type cover atop the green sticker. Once that came off, a little more soaking and the green sticker and adhesive came off. Although the sticker was quite clean, I just didn't want to cover up that beautiful gold case back. It looks great!
