Caseback thickness ?

The caseback of my ref 15000 is engraved with a name and date.. it looks machined rather than hand engraved, so I'm sure of a uniform depth but it looks quite deep. My question is, approximately how thick is the stainless steel in this area ? I want to get it polished or surface ground out.

Or to put it another way. If I have the engraving polished out, will it compromise the integrity of the caseback.

Doesn't look deep at all, polish away!
