Your favorite brand.....
I've been exploring the wonderful world of single malts tonight and started to reflect on what my favorite brand of pen would be if I was cornered in a dark ally and presented with the question, assuming my sidearm jammed, and I was forced to answer at nib point! It's been a roller coaster ride, but I would have to say it's Omas for me. Most have needed work out of the box but I've learned a lot about pens and their mechanics from Omas. It's been an interesting journey with a great writing experience when all is said and repaired. Let's hear from you guys.

My favorite premium brand is Mont Blanc. They are a nice balance between workmanship, writing and price. They are also one of the most recognizable brands and retain a lot of the value. For an everyday pen I like the Uni-Ball.

I can't say that I have a favorite but I do have some favorites. Aurora, Caran d'Ache, ST Dupont, Nakaya, Platinum, Danitrio, Sailor, Ferrari da Varese, Montegrappa, as well as Parker & Sheaffer & Waterman certainly are among my favorites. Montblanc, Pelikan, Pilot/Namiki, Omas and Graf von Faber Castell would likely make up the next lower tier.

Mont Blanc over all, but for editing documents love XF Sailor.

Montblanc for me from my recent 146 purchase. Great writing experience but I won't forget the $24.99 Cross Bailey that started this journey into fountain pens.

Omas, Nakaya, Sheaffer, Waterman, Montblanc, GvFC, and others.
I am too unpredictable. My favorites change. But that is okay as it is my $$$. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

Yes!
If I had to winnow it down to one brand that has, over the years, please me the most it would have to be Nakaya! They are a work of art in my never to be humble opinion.

There are so many great fountain pens out there that it can be very difficult to recommend only one! One of my current favorites is the Pilot Namiki Vanishing Point - one of the few good retractable fountain pens out there. It feels good in the hand (but not too heavy) and there are a huge range of options to choose from depending on your budget.

For me it would be the Chinese lacquered ST Dupont pens from their Montparnasse and Olympio/Orpheo series.

Gorgeous Chinese lacquer, some with magnificent guilloche patterns. Nibs smooth and buttery out of the box. I treasure them all. Sadly, Dupont has moved on...... They are manufacturing very different lines of pens these days.

I am falling in love with our Japanese brothers and their incredible work!
How can you not? It has to be an almost lost art. Urushi! Make-e! Months to complete! It is an honor to hold one in your hand, much less call it yours and write with it. It almost seems a shame to take something that takes so long to create and use it for a common purpose. But then again, we do love fountain pens don't we? And to love FPs is to love what they were designed to do.
