If he think the additional cost of a random serial is worth it, then tell him to go for it... I don't believe there were any aesthetic changes in that time.

The only thing that change is.....

The V serial numbers have the Super Luminova lume

and

The random serial numbers have the Chroma Light lume

To my knowledge......

For 800 bucks I'd get the random still. It's basically tax.

If he plans to wear and enjoy it, why spend the extra money on, essentially, the same watch.

I don't think there will ever be a specific market for V serial (occasional birth year seeker perhaps), however I could see many having a specific desire for random serial watches if you ever decide on reselling.

That said, $800 is $800.

I don't know what a "V" serial on the 116620 indicates.

However, I just sold one ("N" serial, I think) and I do know that there's a significant difference in the pricing for the older versus newer ones with the engraved rehaut.

When did Rolex start using the current bracelet clasp with the link extension? Does the V series have the same clasp as the random serial number?

You should enjoy the watch, once on your wrist, who cares about the serial number or the color of the lume!

I would get the V. The $800 more or less covers the cost of a full service, which bumps the condition of the watch to close to brand new, comparatively speaking.

Up-to-date information.....

Hopefully my knowledge will help someone out in the future.....

Me & my buddy when to check out both watches yesterday...

Here what we found out......

The V serial has the new clap style like the random serial....

So now it's justify to spent $800 more for the random serial.....??

Well, he called a couple of grey market dealer to see what if he were to sell the watch to them, V serial vs random serial....

End up he will lose $400 on the random serial... It like he only spent $400 more on the random serial....

The grey dealer explain......

Thanks to the so call internet hype.....

People want the random serial, newer clap style, open name on the warranty card, so on, & so & on..... Which mean higher demand & it's easier to sell......

So look like the random serial is the way to go......

The funny thing when my buddy try on the newer clap style he prefer my older clap style......

He say it wayyy more comfortable & win by a landslide, if the V serial came with the older clap he would buy it & save $800 and never look back....

I didn't believe him until I try it & it so true, no wonder I find my 116610LV not as comfortable as the Daytona older clap style.... All this time I thought because of the long griglock clap.....

The new clap stye look nice but for the comfort wise it got to be the older clap style.....

Well, look like my buddy will try to close the deal this weekend......
