Buying before Basel?

Hi all, relating to a point some people recently made in another thread about buying pre Basel. Does anybody see any issues with buying a watch before any news and new releases etc come from Basel?

I'm looking at a SubC date next week, does anybody have any opinions on this, if it is smarter to hold off just now etc? Thanks.

If you want a subc go for it don't see it being updated in anyway.
But maybe wait a week see what else comes up might be wise

Buy now before price increase. Sub C will not be changed.

I would, but I didn't. Picked up a sub c last month in a trade.

Consensus seems to be the sub won't change and whatever does get revealed, AD's won't see inventory till late summer/early fall. Longer if it's hot. And a new sub would be very in demand.

I'm looking to buy an Oyster Perpetual 39mm (rhodium dial) and since it's such a new watch I can't think of any reason not to.

Can't imagine any changes to the Sub will happen anytime soon, and any new piece which catches your eye won't be available at list price for ages (probably).

The only reason to wait is if you don't like any of the current offerings. But keep in mind you're not waiting for Basel 2017 you're wait for when you can get a watched released at Basel 2017. Some customers are still waiting for watches released at Basel 2016.

If you like the current Sub C get it. If you'd like to see changes even, if a new one comes out, most likely you'll be waiting a while.

If you want a watch then buy one.

Waiting for "news" is a poor strategy

Normally I say don't wait. Also I can all but guarantee there won't be changes to the 116610LN. But hey maybe they release a new SDc you take a liking to?

It's one week. What's the difference? I'd wait.

Edit: just saw you're in the U.K. Might as well buy now. Seems everything is impossible to get over there

Thanks for the replies, I'm due to pick one up next Thursday so I can have a think and see what I'm feeling about it. I understand baselworld runs from the 23rd - 30th, what day does Rolex usually make their announcements?

On a side note, talking about the SubC date, I know there are no changes expected for quite some time but historically how often do Rolex make design changes? And if you could make changes to it, what would they be?

Since you're not picking it up until next Thursday, I'm thinking we will probably know the new models by then, so you're good to go.

Agree with Tom...probably nothing new with the sub, but a possible new SDc is the talk on the streets...

I would wait.

If new models come out, it could increase offer and push prices down on existing models in the secondary market and you could miss out on a bargain if you would consider preowned. If you're only interested in new, Basel could reveal some interesting surprises more appealing than the current offering, provided that you're willing to wait until eventual availability at the AD.

Also, what if the new SubC come with the new 3255 calibre or if subtle cosmetic changes are made ?

SubC is safe to buy now.

I would only hold off if you were considering a DJ II or 41.

As the guys say, best to wait, a SDc is a high probability.
