If Rolex released that model I would expect to see one in Oz around 2022.
So there is not much to be excited about.

All of this speculation is making me love my 116600 more and more. It's perfect as is.
But, I accept that Rolex will most likely change it this year. Here is what I would accept for a new SD: 1. 42mm diameter 2. No cyclops 3. Red writing 4. DSSD-style glidelock That would be pretty hot...but I would still rather have my 116600! |

42/43mm SD makes sense to me. I like the Cyclops and have no issue with it appearing on the SD. DSSD-type clasp would be great, but suspect this will remain reserved for their engineering flagship. Anyway, we shall see... not long to go now.

It would make sense if Rolex discontinued both the SD and DSSD and release one new model with the rating spec of the DSSD but in a 42mm case.

Serious question to all those that say the new SD won't be bigger or redesigned: Why discontinue the SD4000 if only to provide a 50th Ann. Ed with maybe a dial or text color change? Makes no sense seeing as the "new" SD4000 is only a few yrs old. The discontinuation points to a radically new SD IMO.
At first I thought, "No way the new SD will be 42-43mm...that's just not Rolex MO..." but then I kept thinking back to the discontinued data. That point alone makes me think Rolex may actually shock us with a legit totally different SD. Thoughts? |

It's not like the current line up is not crying out for a diver to fill an obvious void in the line up created by the yawning gap between the DSSD and Sub. As already noted, a 40mm diver is becoming a bit old hat now in the market place. |

Totally agree Rolex is doing just fine w/ 40mm Sub sales, but I contend that's simply because it's THE Sub. The point I think many will make (including myself), is imagine how much better Rolex would do if they FINALLY provided an answer to the millions of customers out there looking for a 42mm diver. The DSSD wasn't the answer to the many buyers like me that find a 40mm Sub just a tad too small on their wrist, yet a 44mm (and more importantly very thick) DSSD a bit too combersome for a daily wearer.
Purists can bitch all they want that a 42mm SD is sacrilege, I say it's about time and PLEASE Rolex make it happen. A 40mm Sub & SD seems pointless nowadays. It would be equivalent to Porsche making a 911 Turbo and NOT giving the car a wider stance and extra air scoops...no way, people demand visual differences for different niche models. Sorry Joe Purist Rolex Buyer of years past...a slightly thicker crystal, titanium case back and small hole on the side is just not going to cut it in the visual difference category anymore. |

I've 7 inch wrist and have a DS but personally don't think 40mm is too small to wear on a daily basis. IMO, if Rolex is going to make a bigger SD4000, 42mm is the optimal size since more people can carry a 42mm than a bigger one!

Just watch the teaser video posted on Instagram.....shape like a sub bezel with cyclops.
Hoping it's a sub in pm and different color dial but not a new SD4000 with cyclops! |

Just saw the teaser...I really hope this isn't a SD with a cyclops...I can see it now.."Rolex engineers have finally found a way too ad the cyclops to the SD and maintain its depth rating"...

Why would a cyclops affect the depth rating on such an over engineered watch anyway?

Interesting....when do you all think this will be at AD's? I seem to recall last year by May we saw some new releases.

I don't think that's a SD...no teeth around the bezel. Looks more like an Explorer bezel.

From the teaser - the watch has a cyclops. I really loved my 42mm Explorer II but got tired of the white dial. That watch is the perfect size watch in my opinion. Would really welcome Rolex offering another 42mm SS sports watch - it's really a big hole in their lineup. A diver would be perfect. I was just in the process of clearing the decks to pick up a Grand Seiko Spring Drive diver at 44mm but a 42mm SD will change the plans!

It has a cyclops and it looks like a diver. It has indents on the bezel that match a diver, so probably not a GMT. Excited!

You can only see the large bezel dashes on that image. Where are the other markers and numbers? I wonder if Rolex have made those flush with the ceramic. I have noticed that on the current SD those do attract a lot of dirt and it's difficult to clean.
