Next incoming: in doubt!
Hi y'all,
Thanks to all the love for Rolex and in-depth reviews on this forum, I purchased my first Rolex (DSSD black dial) nearly two years ago. Still very very happy with this watch, but I've been looking for an addition. I've been looking at 44 mm AP's (CE and FC), but unsure about durability. Just like dr. Tom, I want to be able to do everything while wearing my watches, without having to worry. That means running, gym, swimming, kayaking, etc etc. Not sure if AP can handle this. Since those AP's are, to my knowledge, hard to source in NL, I've come back to Rolex. Narrowed down to two models now, WG Daytona and WG Sub. I want, well, *need* them to be under the radar. I like the blue ceramic bezel on the Dub, but the blue dial on the Daytona is also really nice. What would you do? Much appreciated. |

AP is more fragile by nature. The movements are more vulnerable to shock and the Offshore chronos do not have screw down chrono pushers. The divers would make decent daily beaters though.
WG is no more under the radar than YG with the abundance of gold plated watches. If someone notices it it will be because it's a Rolex, not because it's yellow. |

WG Daytona, gorgeous dial. To me, the wg Sub's blue is dull.

WG Daytona is pretty sweet. I have been thinking about it myself.

Thanks so far! I'm leaning towards the Daytona, even though it doesn't have the ceramic bezel.

For long term wear and tear I'd rather have the ceramic bezel. Counterargument is that replacing the WG bezel on the Daytona is relatively easy and just requires money. Since you have a DSSD I would lean toward the Daytona as well.

In terms of reliability, serviceability and overall miantenance cost it's very hard to go past Rolex when talking about "high end watch brands", regardless of ones location.

Two great Rolex watches to choose from! I'm a white gold fan and when you compare side-by-side with SS, the WG has a beautiful subtle yellow warm tone which can be appreciated on your wrist, but still under the radar. In your case since you have a DSSD dive watch, the WG Daytona blue sunray dial would make more sense IMHO. Good luck and let us know what you choose with some wrist pics. Cheers!

It's a bit funny,... I've never been a big fan of the Daytona, but every time I see one in person (sans the Two-Tone), I'm blown away.
Therefore, given that I've seen a few WG Submariners (Smurfs) in real life that didn't seem to captivate me, I'd lean toward the WG Daytona with Blue Sunburst Dial. They're likely both around the same price and the Daytona simply sparkles. I saw one a few months ago at a boutique in Antwerp - next to a WG, Green Sunburst Day-Date 40 - and they were both awesome to stare at. Go for the Daytona. |

I think you need a ceramic dial first and foremost, and that sunburst blue dial is splendid so I'd probably recommend the YG Subc. However I wouldn't have YG as my only watch so I'd have an SS as well. If only one then the Blue Subc.
