uroboros.......

Hello, the way things have worked out for me is that I use the funds from selling off items that were previously of interest, as time moves on interest shifts and down scaling takes place... this being said... I also find skips / dumpsters are a great resource of funds.... the stuff people throw away that I clean up and sell on towards the Rolex fund.... My 1968 5513 started as a challenge, for £10 I purchased a 1950's Avia, I cleaned it and sold it for £25..... so on and so on, 5 years later I have the Rolex that I wanted, It cost me £10..... and a lot of patience and commitment. this is my story. if you want something bad enough go out and work for it, once this dream have been achieved look to your next item of desire.

All the best Rgds "H"

Photography. After acquiring the 116619LB and realising I'm not wearing any other watches and spending very little time browsing forums and reading very little about watches in general, my focus has shifted to building out my photography kit and spending my spare time scouting for locations and taking photos on the weekend. Definitely see myself coming back to watches, but most of my spare cash is currently going towards photography related equipment. Always been the type to have an expensive hobby; can't help it. busytimmy_k on insta if you're curious ;)

I get the spirit of what you're saying and it's an interesting topic to me. The money would always go somewhere. As I'm contemplating some small time watch dealing with someone in the business, I certainly can't harbor any guilt. Previous costs are now easily rationalized as R&D.

In truth, I flipped a number of watches and feel that I pissed away some money unnecessarily. I've felt a little guilty about my impulsive nature before but I always manage to ride it out.

That's my method....I call it my "sock drawer" money. My Dad kept emergency cash rolled up in a sock in the back of one of his drawers.

Any of my hobby/collecting purchases come from there. Any money I get for selling same goes right back in.

The sock drawer balance is a little low right now due to DAVIDSW and a recent non-horolgical purchase: a like new, practically unfired M1 Garand rifle built in March 1945, with all the original parts and stock stampings. It's equivalent to finding a a NOS full set 1675 GMT.....!

Thanks! I took a week off work and thought I could knock it out with my uncles (and a large team of family helpers). We barely got the framing done and I was stuck solo for the next 8 months to finish
