I just want to see a DS in the damn flesh...it seems every time I hear of one in a store here in SoCal, it is already sold & gone by the time I get to the store. |

The DSSD feels big and heavy when you first put it on. Once you have it on a few hours you feel like it was made for your wrist. Its a weird one, I have 6.75 in wrists and I wear a Breitling old Navitimer quite a bit and it feels big on my wrist yet the DSSD doesn't, I can't explain it. It's funny, I started the day with the SD as I had not worn it in a couple weeks and wanted to give it some love but before the end of the day the DSSD has ended up back on my wrist. The one thing that I could see being in issue to some is how high the watch sit up, I do not see myself wearing it with a suit or as much here in the winter (cold weather and more long sleeved shirts) but being in So Cal (I used to live on Venice Beach) you don't have that problem.

Moby, I am like you in that I am a one-watch guy. I started with a GMT Pepsi as a reward to myself after I got my first meaningful bonus when I was in my late 20's or 30. Then, I friend had a stainless Sub, which I had to have, so I traded my GMT for one, and that became my watch for ten years, and I wore it for everything. Then, when it was dropped and the crystal shattered, I wanted something a bit more robust, so I turned to the SD, which I have loved ever since. Many of my friends have the Sub and I wanted something a bit different, and I didn't like the cyclops. Now, when the LV came out, I thought it was going to be a limited offering, and while I loved the maxi dial and hands, I couldn't get past the green. On top of that, it seems the professional line of Rolex models are now rapidly becoming unisex, and I want a man's watch. I love the idea of a LV Sub with a black bezel, or one of the two newer larger Rolex pieces, the DSSD or the YM-II. As I already stated, both have issues, leaving me as perplexed as when I started thinking about this. I think I will sit tight for the time being and see if a stainless YM-II is offered. If you haven't seen one of these, the complication is amazing and rare. Most chronos can count up, but I haven't seen many that can count down, and this one can not only do that, but catch up to a minute mark should you miss your starting sequence gun. This is no ordinary engineering feat. The only problems are the polished links, which can be brushed out, and the prominent labeling on the bezel. I guess life is all about tradeoffs. Good luck with the "boss"!
