Opinions & advice needed

I'm looking at getting my first Rolex, i've decided on an Air King. I like the simplicity of them.

i found one locally that is advertised online. i'm going to look at it hopefully later today. It is being advertised as a 1987 Air King 5500, R4 are the first two digits on the serial number. Asking $2400. It is said to have been authenticated, but i don't believe it has a box or original papers and has a 30 day unconditional money back guarantee.

Please have a look, tel me if it's a fair deal, over priced, under priced etc. Also, let me know if there is anything specific i need to look for. Like i said, i am going to the seller's location, i'm not ordering it.

I'm far from an expert, but I'm suspicious. It's not an "Air King", and I'm not sure if that dial (if genuine) is right/original for a 5500 case. Plus my understanding is that the 1520 movement is non COSC, so I don't think it goes with that dial in any case.

(Plus it looks like the rotor is, or was at some stage, loose and scraping around causing quite a bit of wear. Plus the dial is missing the 10 and 3 lume dots. Plus those lume dots are a little too white...)

I'd pass, and look for something cleaner.

I went and looked at it. They said it's either not the original dial or it's been refinished. I am passing in it. It's my first in to go look at. I'm in no rush to buy.

I think it's an OP, not AK.

36mm datejusts can be had for around the same price

Why do you say that? The case is clearly marked 5500, which is an AK. It definitely has the wrong dial.

I will pass . Do your research online and then visit many dealers to deal face to face.
The hunt is sometime the best part of the purchase. ;-)
