Steel sky dweller

Does anyone know when we will start to see the 2017 steel sky dwellers in the AD windows?

Most ADs will only get 2-3 a year I'm told, so it will be Daytona-C hysteria or worse. AD stated that 5 individuals who have spent close to $500k at the store were asking to be put on the list. How do you decide who gets it? I told him call them all in and rock, scissor, paper.

I personnel believe that the hype around the Steel Sky-D will be by far less important than the DaytonaC. It is still priced around 14k, not the most popular model, and a diameter and thickness that may not suit everyone... Even though I really love that watch and that they made it available it in Steel and white gold, I don't think that there will be such a high demand.

My 2 cents

Supposedly in Sept/Oct. Looks like Rolex has decided the best marketing strategy is to limit supply and create hysteria. One AD I visited claims it will be as hot as the Daytona C and I may as well not even dream about getting one for a few years.

We'll see, I recently came from a trip to Central America and in Panama City PTY, there's a Rolex AD in the airport that had a SD43 50th Anniversary in the display case, I didn't know they were going for a premium in the US. If I did I would have bought right then and there and posted it in the FS section.

Letter from my AD received 6/30/17...

Hi Lee,

This NEVER happens, but my Rolex rep just reached out to me today to give me a status update on Steel Sky-Dweller orders. He just let me know that this is going to be a longer than usual wait. He also mentioned this is going to be a harder to get piece than the steel Daytona. I am reading between the lines, but clearly they are taking many more special orders on this than they expected, and their supply will not be able to keep up with demand.

Back to the time frame. Per usual they will never give specifics on time frame but where you and I left off, I mentioned from previous years that new releases usual start hitting stores from August to late October. He is stating this will be longer than usual. This is open for interpretation. I have no good way to make any kind of estimate on time frame at this point since we have not seen a watch like this hit the market.

I just wanted to get you this info as I received it. What I can tell you is that you are at the front of the list in this store to receive the watch if you decide to hold the order. However, if you decide you do not want to wait, I will understand.

I hope you have been well.

Best,

Model 3 will definitely be a hit, but the elio car is probably a scam.

I'm skeptical. Of course, Rolex can make these are rare as they feel like. However, the Sky-Dweller is more a watch-nerd timepiece than a mainstream watch like the Daytona. To many buyers, it's just a bigger and thicker version of the Datejust, and the DJ41 already makes it clear that (Rolex feels that) larger DJs aren't what people want. I really don't see too many people especially getting upset if they can't get one, and ultimately that's where the hype comes from.

They won't be for much longer...

As you can see, they are easily had....

Yes the window of opportunity was small, but it was there. I was actually transferring from DAV to PTY so I only had like 20 mins to catch my flight back to the US.

Rolex rep at the Basel event Last week said they would start hitting dealers in august and be on the same level of rare as the ceramic daytona so to expect a long wait. I really like the white dial it's almost like platinum-ish or silver-ish white in person ...made me feel warm and fuzzy.
