Just now shaking off the lethargy of an incredible Sunday night dinner with a few of my wine aficionado friends at 5A5 Steakhouse in San Francisco. Food was really good, which it had to be with a lineup like this:

2004 Jacquesson
1997 Salon
2008 Roulot Les Luchots
2004 Harlan Estate
2002 Lignier-Michelot Clos de la Roche
2001 DRC Romanee St Vivant
1982 Ch Cheval Blanc
1985 Ch Cheval Blanc
1990 Ch Montrose
1997 Ch d'Yquem
2006 Selbach-Oster Zeltinger Sonnenuhr

WOW!!!! Quite the lineup!! What was the occasion? What were the highlights? Though with that runway not sure there could have been a low-light...

Wish I could say it was simply a typical Sunday night.......

Guy was in town for a medical conference, and he wanted to share the Montrose and d'Yquem. We assembled the troops, and collectively knocked it out of the park. Everything showed well. WOTN nose-wise was the DRC........such a beautifully complex melange of floral and spices. Palate-wise, for me it was the DRC just nosing out the '82 Cheval Blanc for 1st. '97 Salon was close behind, and the favorite of the ladies that were in attendance. But really, any of the bottles could've been a star at any other gathering.

I've had Salon few times and never been disappointed! DRC I've had what can only be considered as "off" vintages however it's still amazing even when not in a peak year.

There were a total of 8 of us. My wife and my friend's new girlfriend were the two ladies in attendance, so really more like 7.5 drinkers....

Our server and the GM both got plenty of opportunities to taste the lineup. My friends who own the place were unfortunately elsewhere that night, and were taken aback to say the least at the lineup we brought.
