What year did the new box style come in??
In what year did Rolex begin to supply the new box style?

I don't know the answer to that Richard but I would be interested in learning, not least because the old boxes looked better with the smooth top.
I just dont understand why the new boxes have that peculiar hard rumpled wavey surface on the top. Its the most peculiar design - first time I saw it I thought the box was defective. What's it supposed to be ? |

I am looking at purchasing a Bluesy and the box doesn't fit the description. As far as the rumpled surface I suppose that the Rolex's decision. I just want the box and papers to match the vintage of the timepiece.

Around 2004, I think? My F-Series Explorer II came in the older box.

No expert here either. Despite the fact that the prices continue to soar, Rolex still cuts corners. You see box variations today based on the price of the watch. I have three different boxes with an 18kt Sub, a GMT-IIC TT and a Millie; all under 15 months old. If I may guess, I'd say they started skimping three years ago.

I am just wondering if there is a definitive answer?
It may be that the new style box was introduced in different years for different models. Therefore the question...

I'm pretty sure it was just around 2004/2005. I'm positive I had got the new box with my TT Blue YM in mid-2005.

The only way to get the info is to ask a clearer question. What series is the Sub? Is it 18kt or TT? What box is it coming in?
Then those with the same watch purchased new at an AD can then respond. And yes, different watches in the same series come in different boxes. I can personally attest to that. I don't remember the topic, but there's thread that showed three different boxes posted within the last 4 months. |

It was 2004 I am pretty sure as I got my Steel Daytona in December 2003 and I remember it wasn't very many weeks before the new boxes were being seen.

Now, more importantly, the only real issue is if the watch you want is authentic. You can buy any Rolex box you want on eBay. Why are you worrying about this inconsequential aspect? |

No prob on the authenticity. Seller is recommended on TRF many times. The only discrepancy are the boxes.

Well you made me breakout the camera.
Bluesy and GMT-IIs are Z series. Millie is an M. A D series I believe is a 2005 to 2006 watch. It should have a box like these. IF TT watches have the same box it would be the mid-size. Again, much ado about nothing. |

If I'd had not kept the tags and manuals in the boxes you could have put a gun to my head and I couldn't have told you what watch came in what box. Maybe the seller is in the same boat.

I have heard as early as 2003. but if other members are saying 2004/05 then that is probably right

According to Quality Tyme - http://www.qualitytyme.net/pages/acc...cessories.html
who sell replacement boxes, 2005. They call the lid design "wrinkled wave". |

The correct answer is mid-way on the F-series watches. The early F-series still had the old-style smaller green box with the horseshoe holder.

I think the boxes are cheap looking and feeling. I would expect a lot more from Rolex given the quality of the watches. Maybe real leather would be a good start.
Not complaining here - just giving my 2 cents. After all, the watch is the important part!
