The world is a dangerous place. That's what's going on. It's a very sad incident...

But remember, your life is worth more than your Rolex - so give it away with no second thought.

RIP

That may or may not be true, depending on where you live and how you view the world. But I feel the need to add a bit of perspective here.

In the U.K. in 2015 there were 573 murders (source:ONS). In 2010, the last year for which I could find the stats at a glance, 655 people died falling down the stairs (source:ONS). So you really ought not to worry about getting waxed for the piece of metal on your wrist unless you also begin every morning wailing in terror at the prospect of not making it downstairs to the breakfast table with neck intact.

Insure your watches, if in the unlikely event anything happens hand the thing over.

The hassle of reporting and putting in a claim for a watch is nothing compared to the alternatives if you decide to resist.

Thankfully this is still an extremely rare occurrence.

Stupid not handing over the Rolex in the first place; very, very sorry for his death but that was a bad decision.

so sad,,he thought they were joking when they stopped and said hand the watch over!
A premiership football player [Bournemouth FC ] was robbed of his Rolex a while back in Bermondsey,, SE London,,
i believe he thought it was initially a car-jacking until it was made clear it was his £20k+ Rolex they wanted,,,
These animals know what they are looking for,,,,,,
Head for the up market areas near to them as they assume any high end watch will be real instead of a fake and easy pickings,,,,,
I trust our police to make an arrest within a few weeks,,,,jay

Hard to imagine this could happen but there are some bad people out there. Keep your head on a swivel, be aware of your surroundings, life over material items and keep on keeping on.

~RIP~ May they find this thief and justice be served.

I have to agree with this. I don't know what this guy was thinking quite frankly... especially running away and leaving his girlfriend behind.

Not handing over the watch was wrong of him run from the attack was right I think. That then took the attackers away from his girlfriend and put distance between them giving her time to shout for help, run for her own safety.

We forget the value on our wrists, moped gangs stealing phones is bad as well.

Protect our wallets but forget about other valuables.

Scumbags.

I hadn't considered that I guess...

I wasn't there and the details are a little lacking so you may be right.

This is how it started with phones, as these have been an almost unstoppable crime to stop, esp with the police now not allowed to give chase if the moped riders take off their helmets, which now they all do ofc, and now they have moved onto watches and jewellery.

Yes, I saw that, they can't give chase because of the danger to the thieves! Madness!

Also over here the police are not allowed to give chase to moped criminals in case the criminals injure themselves!!!!

Another fun fact if you have a barbed wire fence and a burglar injures himself on it, he can sue you.

This country is paradise for a criminal.

I almost got stabbed by a big ass blade in Paris when the guy wanting a cigarette started to pull on the pack, I pulled back and felt this thing on my stomach, 8-10 inch blade, of course I let go, have 2 friends who were stabbed severely, one for a jacket the other for shoes, one almost doed the other had to have many operations as the intestines were hit, stitched up but kept opening, me and one in Paris, the other in Rennes, be careful France is not the friendliest place on earth...
