Thats a beautiful watch Grady!!! Regardless of cost, it's far more appropriate with a suit than a $10,000 diver on a bracelet.

I keep telling myself that I have enough and don't long for another but I will likely add to my collection. So it depends on the person and how much they love watches. Go for the amount that makes you happy!

I'll probably keep buying until I get to a point where I feel like I've covered all bases. As it stands, I've already got a diver, but I'm still eyeing the Hulk (I suppose because it's different). Then I'll need a Chrono., a moon phase, etc. I figure 5-6 is a solid number, but variations mess with that number (colors, styles). It's good to have choices!

I have one inexpensive dress watch (3 hand, no date) for Sunday or with a suit. I have two sports watches: a Tudor Submariner for daily wear and a Casio Illuminator for exercise and yard work. Works for me.

"Sports Watches How many too many?"

One too many is one more than just enough...

X = Just enough
Y = One too many

X + 1 = Y

Rolex and TRF are more geared towards sports, but if you have 4/5 sports then I think having a nice dress watch, Lange or PP esp, is fine for special suit and tie occasions or the office.

I wouldn't get too caught up in the number of "dress" v. "sport" for your collection. Just go with what captures your heart.

There is no such thing as a limit, but as my collection has expanded I have found some pieces can be a little redundant. I think the first criteria that should be considered when expanding a sport collection is to obtain different complications and functions: dive, GMT, chrono, etc. I've done that while at the same time seeking out different dial colors. I'm very happy where my sport collection is now. I am looking to add more dressy/sport hybrid pieces over the next few years such as a Royal Oak.

Personally, I prefer sports watches over the dressier variants and it's all I have. If someone judges me and decides I'm uncouth because I wear a GMT or Sub with a suit, so be it. The last time I wore a tux was when our daughter married. I wore my SS sub. Not that it matters, but I doubt anyone even knew I was wearing a watch under my shirt sleeve.
I don't buy my watches giving a lot of attention to wearing them for certain occasions, lifestyle or attire. I buy what I like which happens to be sports watches. Their appearance appeals to me most and the fact that they are robust, water resistant, etc are bonuses. Admittedly, recently some of the new DJs are starting to tempt me.

I would say more than 8 would be too many. With 8, I would have all of the bases covered:

SubC
SubC Date - Black or Green
TT GMT/Sub
WG GMT/Sub
YG GMT/Sub
SeaDweller/DSSD
Daytona - Need to have one Chrono
Explorer II - Add some white to the collection

Pretty complete sport watch collection IMHO.

I think the true answer is as many as you can wear. I often find that people lose interest when they don't have the time to wear a watch. If you can wear 5 consistently, great! If you can only wear 3, perfect! If you can do 9, more power to you!

Why would someone not have the time to wear a watch? Great pun though.

There are 365 days in the year.

Y = 366

I depends on your purpose of collecting. Whether it is only to have watches
which gets each of wrist time or is it collecting watches but not necessarily wear
them all.

I think it depends on how much money you have to spend on watches.

The first watch that eats into your everyday finance, is the one too many.

For some this could be one watch others could have hundreds.:cHeers:
