Rolex Explorer 2

New to the forum although have been viewing for a few years. On the verge of buying an Explorer 2 16570 with a black dial(40mm).Was in Hatton Gardens earlier and was tempted to buy one for £3200 (no box or papers) but I thought it was a little steep and I'm much more comfortable around the £3000 mark. I was wondering in your opinion if that's a fair price and if the Explorer 2 will rise in value anytime soon. Had the same dilemma with a Yachtmaster 1 SS last year and that's rose quite a bit in price which I find quite annoying lol. I own a Submariner 16613 blue dial which I bought from Hatton Gardens for £3600 in 2014 (bargain). Thanks in advance.

I've had my eye on a black dial 16570 for a while now and judging by the prices I've seen here in the states, as long as it was in good condition I would pick it up at that price without box or papers. But that's just my opinion...

Thanks for the reply. Do you think I'll lose much if I resell in the next few years? Or could I possibly profit? I'm not intending to sell but if worst comes to worst I dont want to take a beating.

It has been said here many times before. Do not buy a watch as an investment.

They're going for about £3000 here in Thailand. Been hovering around that price for years. Don't think they'll change anytime soon, but I could be wrong.

As for the watch itself, it's one of the best "go anywhere, do anything" watch.

£3200 is probably not a bad price, I've seen them second hand up and down the country for £4000+!!

I do believe the prices have risen 2014-2017 but maybe have plateaued now. I bought my Polar in perfect condition, full set for £3000 in 2014.

Personally, I would inspect the bezel, make sure it's nice and crisp and also consider if you may find the later SEL bracelets more appealing to you.

that price sounds about right, my friend's second hand watch shop sells them for $3900, most here on the for sale section do about $4200 - $4500, a bit more for complete sets, a bit less for more "loved" pieces
