Can you live with good looks alone?

I've been thinking about getting a Panerai. It will be my first and only Pam. It has to be a 3 hander with a sandwich dial. I will admit that is a classic Panerai look, and indeed it looks very good.

However, I am a complication type of guy who likes rotating bezel, chrono, etc.

So the question is, if you like complication in your watches, does the basic 3 handers Panerai become boring after a while???

PS. I rule out chrono Pams since it just doesn't look right to me. the flyback does look very good, but is out of my price range.

TIA,
anthony

It depends what else you have in your rotation. If, say, you only have one other watch in your rotation then a three hand PAM might become boring if you like complications.

I have a 359, which has three hands and a date, and it gets the most wrist time of any of my watches so I would say not but that's just me.

The used market on Panerai is quite soft at the moment so you might be able to pick up something better than you think. Given that you're in the US, consider working with one of the TRF trusted sellers to see what they can do.

From what you've said you're looking for, I'd be thinking 312, 359 or 351; 351 is a tad left field because of the tobacco dial, which you'll either love or hate.

Others will be along shortly with their views and you'll have some great advice by the end of the day. Take a look at the Panerai website foe some ideas and also look here too for some great shots:

Not sure how questions about 3 hands (or 2 even) are specific to Panerai, but, if you're worried, look at the Submersibles...305/1305/389/1389 etc, which give you the Panerai DNA with rotating bezels.

Anyway, the main purpose of a watch is to tell time, so, might as well look good while doing it! ;-)

Looking to add either one of these (or something similar) into the mix.....and is wondering if the lack of 'complications' to play with would leave me 'bored'.

But they look pretty....

The Damasko doesn't look pretty, but I wear it all the time and really enjoy it.

Back to being serious, this is great advice. I was in OP Singapore today and saw this. The manager was feeling playful and put this incredibly rowdy strap on a 1389. It was so wrong that it was right. They've recently released some rubber straps in some quite leftfield colours.
