I've taken in a PAM 111 on a trade and it's my first Panerai. It's a 2005 model and I don't believe it has ever been serviced. It seems to be running fast, 30 seconds a day.

I love the watch and am not sure what I should do - the previous owner offered to take it to a watchmaker to have it regulated but recommended against opening it up.

Is this normal for an older Panerai? Should I get it serviced by Panerai instead? Do nothing and just enjoy it?

Advice would be appreciated.

it's not normal, it has a modified eta movement and should be able to be fixed by any watchmaker.

Why don't you try to have the watch demagnetized. No harm will come to the watch and you need not open it. If after the demagnetization do not yield favorable results, you will have to service it. PAM00111 has an OP XI means Unitas base/ETA movement. Any "good" watchmaker will be able to do servicing on it.

As D said above, it's an ETA movement so take it to a reputable indie watchmaker. Personally, I'd go a step further and have it serviced. It's 12 years old and not been serviced so it's time it was done. It shouldn't cost a fortune and you ought to have five to ten years of hassle-free motoring.

Hello fellow Canadian. When I purchased my "J" series, it was also running quite fast. I brought it to Panerai at Yorkdale for a full service, it was $600 plus tax and took about 4-5 weeks. It looks and works like brand new. I'd definitely recommend this if you have the funds. If you have any questions, you can PM me.

Good morning TJ, and congrats on the 111!

I'd have it serviced, as per the above advice.

I'm new to Panerai as well and one of the nice things about the brand and a minor factor in deciding on this brand is that we are fortunate enough to have a Panerai service centre in Mississauga, so it's easy to have them serviced

Thanks all of the advice. I think my preference is to have it serviced by Panerai but maybe having it degaussed might be worth a try. I will keep you posted.

Another plus about getting it serviced by panerai, at least the first time around, is that they register the serial to your name. I find this to be worthwhile.
