On certain descriptions of vintage rolex for sale there is a mention Mark I, II, etc.
What does it stand for?

Best to google this properly and research on the Vintage forum, but on the red subs for eg, they go from Mk1 to Mk6 depending on when they were made.

By way of good example, visit Ed Delgado's website www.drsd.com and find your way to the sections on dials for the Double Red Sea-Dwellers and Red Submariners.

There were usually a number of dial variants / third part dial suppliers etc used by Rolex for any given model. Collectors denote them with their own nomenclature, sometimes widely agreed and sometimes not, which helps value an individual watch. Some dials are a lot rarer and / or more desirable than others.
