18k yellow gold sky dweller or day date

First of all I want to Thank everyone on here. I've been reading and learning a lot on this forum. I'm a new WIS. At the moment I have a date just II TT. I've been waiting for a 18k yellow gold sky-dweller with champagne dial for over a month.
Today, I received a call and local AD let me know that they just received a day-date with champagne dial. Should I wait for the sky-dweller or go ahead and get the day-date?
My ideal collection would be a date just II, bluesy, sky-dweller yellow gold and AP royal oak offshore 44mm.

I don't want to be in a situation that I got the day-date only to find out after a couple months I'm not in the love with the watch.
Have any of you ever had my dilemma? and what would you suggest?

A day date isn't in your ideal collection, and a YG SkyDweller is...what's the debate?

I say go try on the dd and see how you like it. If it doesn't sing to you then wait for the SD.

Wait for sure, you don't want to be flipping thru PMs, that's not a cheap hobby.

The first thing that I would consider is the price and discount that an AD is charging based on the watch. The Sky-Dweller at full msrp and tax will come in close to 50K while the DD will come in mid to upper 30's. Trusted Seller prices on NIB on the Sky-Dweller is around 31K while the DD can be had for 25-26K. Two very different watches and wear and look are significantly different. I wore a series of DD II's for the better part of five years and loved the watches but did not like the lack of adjustability in the bracelet. I did some trading and got the WG Sky-Dweller and the YG Sky-Dweller with the silver face. Both were on the bracelet. While I liked them I never bonded with them and had no use for the complication and did not like the sub ring. Both are now gone, I do not miss them in the least, and I don't think I will come back around to them. I purchased a Platinum DD II and a YG Submariner to replace them. I would lose the AD unless they can meet TS prices and I would consider the DD or YG Submariner or GMT as I find them more wearable day to day than the Sky-Dweller. Good luck with the search.

From reading your posts, you have a soft spot for the Sky Dweller. I think you should be waiting and once you get your watch you would be more than happy

OK...I'm going to go against the crowd here. Sorry, guys.

If it's the DD40, then I would 100 percent go for that over a PM SKD. In my little mind, Rolex really hit the sweet spot with the steel version. A big, heavy watch suddenly became more manageable in SS and the dial looks better with the index markers flowing into the month indicators...again, this is all very subjective and just my opinion.

The DD40 is a magnificent specimen...perfectly proportioned and timeless class mixed together with the new spectacular movement. Total home run. I think you would be hard pressed to find a better overall watch for your collection. And...worst case, if you have to sell down the road b/c of some catastrophic loss, you're going to do better on resale.

Now, here's what I would do. Flip the DJ2 for a steel SKD, get the DD40, and then add in your other pieces when you're ready. Done, and you're welcome.

Once you wear the DD it's difficult to fall out of love. I don't think that would be a concern.
If your mind is set on a YG SkyD just go for that, than skip the DD and in your case I would not settle for a SS version.

It's not often I disagree with Larry... and this isn't one of those times . SS SkyD and DD40 is a very creative solution.

Buy the PM which is ideal for you. I think in your case Sky-Dweller. If you have not preferred Day-Date before over Sky-Dweller you propably dont do that in the future either. Buying and selling new PM models seems to be faster moneyburner than fire itself.

Stick with your ‘ideal’ plan and wait for the SkyD.

Purely based in looks and long term classic appeal, I'd chose the DD.

You'll tire of wearing the weight of the skydweller in pm. You'll find the DD is like an old pair of jeans instantly.
