Possible crown/gear issue? Moving second hand while changing time

Originally posted in general, but I guess it makes more sense here. I have a GMT Master II(c). When I pull out the triple lock crown to change the time (in the outer most position), sometimes the second hand keeps moving while I change the time. If I continue to move the minute hand, the second hand eventually stops (seems to be a gear thing). Happens about 1/3 of the time. Is this normal or a problem?

It's not normal. I am not a watchmaker by any means, but I did have a similar problem with a Submariner and my local watchmaker replaced the hack "finger", I think also referred to as hacking lever, which was bent or broken if memory serves. Was a very quick and cheap repair, done while i waited.

"Keeps moving" as in it doesn't hack = keeps ticking?

Or does the seconds hand stop ticking and freewheels along with the minute hand as you're adjusting it.

Yes, the second hand "keeps moving" as in it "keeps ticking."

I witnessed the 2nd scenario recently, quite intriguing. It was on a Quartz Swatch with no battery, haven't gotten around to working out why.

I was actually going to service the watch next April (5th year). Should I go ahead and service 6 months early, or is it OK to wait? My concern with the latter route is that it may damage something else if I wait too long.

Also, found some old threads discussing the same issue. Some posters said it was due to low oil, while others say it's normal. Interesting.

Thats not supposed to happen at all. You need to have someone look into that.
