Thought on this Rolex 6542
Would love to hear experts thoughts on this Rolex 6542. A lot of the parts are service replacements. What do you guys think the value is of a watch this heavily serviced?Screen Shot 2018-01-30 at 5.32.15 PM.png

Price is low, and I am thinking about making it a project watch to get parts for in time. Would appreciate thoughts on how to go about evaluating the watch in its current state.

I think you could probably get a case and movement on its own without having to pay for the rest if you're into projects. Projects scare me.

So you think that's all that really has value for this watch? Being offered to me for 11k. But I guess that's still a bit too high.

You will never ever find lose parts to finish that. Buy it if you like it as is.
If you are lucky enough to actually find a good gilt dial, correct hands, date wheel, bezel and a bakelite I promise you that you will have paid more for it than buying it complete to begin with. These parts just doesn’t float around nowdays. |

Sorry for being glib. But, as roh suggested, this would be a monumental endeavor to make it correct again. You’re talking, probably, tens of thousands of dollars all told

Thanks for the input all. Really not all that attractive as is, so I guess I will pass and wait for a better example.

Interesting info. I also just acquired a 6542. All vintage, and it's posts like this that kept me from making a huge mistake and sending to Rolex for service.
