Just signed up for a blind tasting at one four favorite local vineyards. The lineup suds pretty good:
Their 2016 Rose vs 2016 Mondavi Rose Their 2008 Cab vs 2008 Palmez Vineyards Cabernet Their 2008 Bordeaux blend (named Genesis) vs 2008 Quintessa Their 2010 Chardonnay vs 2010 Kistler Chardonnay This is the third time the wife and I have done this. The owner normally gets a little toasted and ends up puling a few more bottles. Looking forward to seeing what else he grabs from the cellar.

Sounds like fun...but you already know what all the wines are...that kinda takes away from the true ‘blind’ part of the tasting but will definitely be fun. It turns into a more battle of the labels or battle of the ‘values’ vs. more deterministic of what your palate likes stylistically. I have attended and have hosted many tastings and your mind will always want the more expensive wine to taste better. It is just how we are built. Hope y’all enjoy it and lol forward to hearing your thoughts. Palmaz and Quintessa are a cpl if my go-tos. ![]() ![]() Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

I know what you mean, but it's still blind enough for my pallet. We know what wines they are poring, but we don't know which wine is which. For example, a server brings everyone two glasses of Cabernet. We talk about taste, nose, color, etc while we sip and make notes. Then, everyone votes on a favorite and they reveal which is which. It's a Kayli, going to try to wait until my 40th birthday in August but I wouldn't bet on it. Going to try the Quilt for the girls tonight, the Leap is for me. It's very smooth and balanced, definitely a sleeper at its price point. I'm moving away from the sugary stuff, not as appealing as it used to be. I mainly use it as a bridge to convert my wife's friends into more complex cabs lol.

My fiancé and I dove into this wine tonight. Neither of us know much about wine, just that we really love it. I’m partial to Italian reds, but this Spanish red was amazing. If anyone has ever heard of it let me know!

So I'm having some friends over for dinner a week from today. I'd like to purchase a few bottles to share. I'm looking to spend ~$200 and get 4 or 5 bottles of wine. Any recommendations? Looking for Cabs and a couple white wines for the ladies, they prefer Pino Grigio.
My wife and I spoiled ourselves last weekend and bought a few bottles of this at Eddie V's. ![]() Then after we were pretty smashed we went for a night cap and popped one of these. Good times... ![]() |

Looks like a good time. ![]() As far as the wines go The Pinot Grigios are pretty easy - you could go with something like a Santa Margherita or Elena Walch Pinot grogio- or look at some Wilamette Valley Pinot Gris — usually what we keep around of this varietal. As far as the cabs go - look for Freemark Abbey, Grgich Hills, Swanson, Heitz Cellar, Round Pond....also any of the Orin Swift Wines. These are all very good selections and will keep you right in that $ range you’re looking at - also widely available. Enjoy! Let us know what you decide, and how you all like it.
