Daytona is to Rolex...

Hi,

Quick question your thoughts...

SS Daytona is to Rolex...

5711/5712 is to PP

???? is to AP

I'm basing it on the fact that the watches are highly sought after, somewhat exclusive, and demands a healthy premium in the grey market.

Thanks!

you are not comparing flagship models as those are just the hardest to get from each brand. So in that comparison its the SS 15407. Its the only SS watch close to that level of difficulty to acquire from AP.

They have plenty of in house chronograph just not in their “inexpensive” lines.

I would probably even consider the Schumi Lap Timer in house since AP owns more than 50% of APRP.

Love it when someone drops the term "in-house". Remember when Patek Philippe had a Lemania chronograph movement in their 5970s! Ya good times, terrible watch and terrible company, right? (Picks up mic and gives it back to Brian Cranston)

if we are talking watches that are hard to find and pay a premium then the perpetual calendar ceramic would probably qualify. The 15202 is also gaining demand. or the 15305 or 15407 as well.

I think the 15407 is much harder to get than a Daytona, the 15202 is probably a better match

I’d say it goes 15202-116500-15407 from what I’ve found!

Waited 6 months for the white Daytona, black is due over the next couple of months but I only showed interest in that about 8-9 months back, 15202 I was offered within 2 months and the 15407st well when the gods shine on me

Calm down people I was just making a joke. That and my frustration with my DD chrono module that crapped out 1 month into ownership of my ROO.

I would be in a much bigger hurry to go in house if my suppliers modules were troublesome.

Maybe AP should ask papi how to make a chrono. This isn’t rocket science.

Thank you all for your replies!!!

The reason I ask is that I am getting a bit bored of Rolex & Panerai watches and looking into AP for a change. Just wanted to ask to see what is in demand and figure out what it is about AP that folks love.
It looks like the 15202 and the 15407 are the hard to get AP watches. Not that I am thinking I can get one of the above soon. I currently have a great relationship with the Rolex AD and am offered whatever, but zero w/ AP.
Currently I am looking into a ROO with a rubber strap because it looks different from all the rolexes that I have. I looked at the oysterflex watches but still doesn't quite excite me.

Keep the replies coming!!!

Thanks

Tom

I checked all over the internet and can't seem to find this particular watch. Can you tell me which reference this might be.

your comparing a chrono with alot of heritage(Rolex Daytona) to a non-chrono Patek with no heritage (5711), until the last 5ish years the 5711 was selling for 20k preowned

For the AP-There is the 26320...but its not a sports watch

Its impossible to compare these across brands...

The daytona dates back to Paul Newman and those can go for 1 million dollars+

What are the criteria to base the comparison on besides popularity?

I don't think there's a good AP comparison. 15202 could be one, or if we are allowing references which are no longer made, then I would say the AP ROO Ceramic Diver.

For me - I wouldn’t even make that ‘comparison’ and the only two aforementioned reference that are truly comparable (in my mind) are the 5711 and 15202.

Having worn them all including the 116518, 116520, and the 116500 Daytona’s —- a true comparison just doesn’t work. If we are merely highlighting what is ‘hard to get’ or ‘pulls grey market premiums’ comparison — ok, but that is hardly a deterministic factor to assess these references in any way.

Here’s my .02

5711>(or equal - can’t underline sign)15202>any modern Daytona - regardless of hype.

If we are not talking about money, then the 15202, 5711 and Sub are the comparators for each brand, but as Roger says the Rolex is in a different league.

In that case, there wouldn’t be one for AP. Buy the Daytona!

I already have several SS daytonas. I don't think
I need anymore. Also have pretty much every Rolex
Professional line except for the explorer and sea dweller.

In that case you’re seeking the ceramic PC and 15407ST.
