Watches & Tablets

and no....not the suppository type for all you dirty people....

I'm actually talking about wacom graphic tablets, or digitizers if you prefer. Due to the nature of my work, my hands spend probably 90% of the day
over a 12"x19" tablet, and it just occurred to me recently.... seeing as these things apparently work with some kind of electromagnetic induction technology, would it be a danger to my watch?
I'm guessing here, that it would be a rather mild EMF anyway, so there's probably nothing to worry about, but it's a rather long time over an extended period.

Anybody out there who's more knowledgeable about this sort of stuff?
In the meantime, I'll see what I can find out about tolerances of watches, and how powerful the tablet is.

Cheers guys!

I can't see that magnetic field have that much of an effect if any, on the watch.
There are parts inside the tablet that are also affected my magnetic fields.
Just my 1/2 educated guess here.
BUT good question.

I don't think most watches are a concern around a filed as mild as that is likely to be. I wear all my watches near an induction heating system I installed over the last year where the field outside the fenced area is about .4mT (milli-tesla) or about 4 Gauss.......way more than your tablet would produce, and no issues with my watches.

Must agree with Al on this, your watch would have to be subjected to a far greater magnetic field,to do your speedy any harm.

You are a very, very sick person, JJ. Please seek help immediately and up your meds dosage to at least 5 times a day.

Thanks Al!
Yep, It's probably safe to say that's way more than the tablet radiates.
I think, that the standard omega resistance is something like 6mT (the operative word being think!), and according to the standards the tablet complies to, its radiated emissions don't exceed about 70 uV/m. I'm very hazy on my physics, so I'm not 100% sure how they relate, but that does appear to be very minimal.
I'm sure if the speedy is 'space proof' then it should definetly be 'geek proof'.

Interesting, anyway. Glad to know there's people out there who know what I'm going on about!

....as for the rest of you sickos.....all i can say is......

The original moonwatch speedy was subjected to extreme condition testing by NASA including electromagnic forces a thousand times the magnitude of those experienced by your watch.

My very first quality watch was a displayback moonwatch (cal 863). The only watch I made a profit on when I flipped it.
