Swiss Made- new dial?
Looking at a preowned GMT II 16710 and not sure if its all original. Its a U serial, so 1997/1998 as I understand. But the dial is "Swiss Made" which I think was only 2000+.
Is this a replacement dial? What sort of impact on value for this? |

"Swiss Made" seems unlikely for an original dial although "Swiss" is a possibility.
I don't see why a new dial would be put into such a recent watch so I would expect to find a complete rebuild along with the dial.

That time period was one of change to LumiNova. So the s/n alone won’t particularly help.
While odd, only Rolex would know - when in doubt, my tendency is to pass if originality is paramount. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro

I agree, it seems odd to me. Its watch only, and I am looking to buy to wear, and will likely not sell, but at the same time I don't want to over pay. I trust the seller as far as authenticity, but they are a re seller and don't have the history on the watch.
Does a rebuild impact desirability/value of a "modern" era model? Everything externally looks to be in great shape. As long as the internals are Rolex, dont know that I'm too concerned. Is there a way to inquire to Rolex pre-purchase regarding service? |

Not in a practical way - but it could be done with a lot of coordination with the seller. This would mean he takes it to the RSC for a service quote. Then if the dial is incorrect, the quote will include “required replacement - dial”. This is a case of trusting the seller. But I’d move onward if you don’t feel comfortable with a potentially suspect dial replacement having been done in the past. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro

Not sure if I am concerned that it is "incorrect" if its a service dial due to damage or other issue. Would it be "incorrect" if it was the wrong dial for the date of the watch? If Rolex regularly replaces dials with a "swiss made" service dial if needed, I am ok with that.

Perhaps it has been replaced at service with a genuine service replacement due to the original dial having lost its luminosity or being a little dim.
In that case it doesn't matter really as it has a full upgrade. |
