GMT experts needed
This looks like a fake to me. I think the date is too small. I like how he also goes on to explain how difficult it will be when the buyer figures out it's fake.
"I offer a five day guarantee on my watches. If not satisfied with your purchase, you can e-mail me to discuss the posibility of return the watch within 5 days (postmarked) You will receive a full refund minus all shipping charges. The buyer is always responsible for all shipping charges, including return shipping" http://cgi.ebay.com/GMT-Master-II-Re...d=p3286.c0.m14 Item Number: 190260133325

Err buddy Mike...Orchi is no expert of any sorts...
This here shows what looks to be the Solid End Links(SEL) n Oyster bracelet(78790A) are latest style...fitted to a Case with lug holes...which would seem to be a minor mismatched issue... The Dial/Hands/Bezel look clean n pleasant... ![]() |

Orchi, the band is the SEL band and appears genuine from the clasp and clasp thumbnail recess as you noted. The links are properly tapered as they progress from the case to the clasp, in that they are thinner as they become closer to the clasp. The watch case is not a SEL case. The box is the first generation 2000 and up box-set used until around 2005/2006. The dial looks genuine along with the date window/cyclops. The band combination for this watch is rather strange, but the watch appears genuine. If I were bidding, I would email the seller and question why the SEL band being on this GMT.

Err buddy Mike...yes the date font n cyclope would seem to be in order...
But as per Orchi's earlier mention...n as what buddy Springer has amply pointed...the band is mismatched... ![]() |

...maybe the fella...
...did NOT like the div ext of the original 93150/78360 and opted to put this one on it. I have seen a couple of sellers do it.

betcha it's a Y serial #, which had the 'holes' case but the SEL bracelet
You don't see too many fake GMTs... hands are in correct order; second, minute, GMT, hour ... date looks fine to me. Crown looks good too. |

I think he meant the flip lock band not sub band. Anyway, the sub band could be ordered with a GMT. GMT's that came with the sub band are coded on the warranty paper differently than if they were sold with the Jubilee or oyster band. Look at the complete watch code, which is usually found above the serial number at the top of the warranty paper, if it came with a sub band it should end with 9315 which indicates it came on a sub band. Cheers, John

I think it's fine. The bracelet, holes case, flip-lock, box and dial are all correct for an early y-serial. It's just another victim of the economy. You're going to see a lot of low-feedback sellers putting their Rolex on ebay in the next few months.

I have a 2000 GMT II with the 7879 and has solid end links. The papers say it was bought 11/17/00 with style # R16710A30B7879 and the clasp code is DE which is 2001 probably normal for a late 2000 model.

I guess I had the right answer for the wrong reason. My instincts told me there was something wrong when the seller didn't respond to questions about the watch. I just got an email from eBay saying that this watch was sold on a hijacked account. I dropped out early, but someone bought it and ended the auction early. Just goes to show that if you get a bad feeling you should not ignore it.
