5905
Well. I wondered how long it would take, now I'm lucky enough to be in the patek club - until I started to look outside the Nautilus range
I've worked thru a fair few rolex and omega in my day, always being incredibly happy with each, but always an eye on the horizon. I had a 15202 6 months now and am still disinterested in the other ap references, I'm just so smitten But with patek - the Nautilus 5711 is where I landed. I've looked around the 5990 and the 5712... Both are amazing.... But as of the last few days I've been looking at the others and do rather fancy a 5905..... Also I see the 5170 appeals to my eye!!! Its a serious watch in every way... But that brings a serious decision and a heck of a commitment financially, so I'd like to understand its place in the market and the user experience more if possible!? How is its reputation? Resale / residual value? Have we got any owners here to share views or pictures? Kind thanks |

love the 5905, especially the blue dial. Its on my wishlist for sure. It wears nicely and has great presence without being overwhelming. I doubt its going to be your classic patek because its big and kind of a dressy watch and usually that isnt a good combo, however it works on this watch. I do prefer the 5170P to the 5905 though.
awful pics, but this is when i tried it on

Both 5905p and 5170p are amazing pieces; the price of the 5905 is very competitive compared to the 5170. It has beautiful wrist presence while not feeling bulking or thick at all. Please try it and let us know, u will love it.

i still think you want a 5990. You have posted about it a lot. Personally i'd take the 5990 over a 5905 and its less money and more versatile. You have a 15202 for your dressy piece (and your 5711) and a 5905 isnt really going to give you anything extra in that regard. A 5170P is a different beast entirely though.

I prefer the sleeker 5170, and in RG and WG used prices are quite nice. Also like the Lange 1815 WG too.

i tried the lange datograph on saturday. bit thick, very legible and nice, phantastically decorated caliber and much less expensive than the 5170 - after the discount offered. the patek us more elegant though.

If you're looking in the 5170, 1815 chrono range also check out the VC cornes de vache chrono. Saw it in both metals this past weekend. Great movement, superb finishing, great size. Used prices are very friendly

The 5905P is an amazing time piece , I have the black dial & love it, it is light on the wrist , beautiful wrist presence ,having 2 great complications , chronograph & annual calendar , you can use for both formal & smart casual , love the dial layout ..
Not a fan of the 5990 , for me nautilus is the 5711 & the 5712 blue dial , that,s just me Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk |

I tried on the 5905p several times, both the blue and the black. I couldn’t get comfortable with the overall size and thickness. In any case, I usually prefer blue dials, but in this case, I much prefer the black. The white background in the apertures on the blue dial don’t work for me.
But, between the 5905p and the 5170p, it’s the 5170p all the way. The movement alone tips it over the edge, let alone the blue-to-black dial that is just so damn awesome!

I'd like the 5905 subdial to be more subtle and less threatening. |

I bought a gold Rolex Daytona about a year ago. I thought it was an incredibly beautiful watch.
Then I started looking a little more seriously at Pateks. I don't care for the nautilus or aquanot line. The Calatrava and complication lines seem so much more elegant. I was lucky to find a 5105r. I find it so effortless, efficient, easy to tell what day it is. I had convinced myself with the Daytona that knowing the date wasn't important. Well I was fooling myself. I don't wear the Daytona much anymore. I hope this changes with time. I don't need a watch winder with the Patek. I'm always wearing it. Finally, I don't think it's too big. The weight seems perfect and no matter how my wrist turns, the watch seems to stay in a comfortable position. |

My 5205r is very similar. Love the easy, clear way the date info is shown. The moon is a cool addition.
Something to look at also. Please ignore previous post. I don't know wtf I was thinking. Long day I guess. |

The 5905p has become my favorite watch. It really does everything, and it's actually hard to beat the overall value of the complications in a really awesomely sized platinum case. Ive actually ordered a strap made out of cordura and done with platinum stitch for the watch similar to the only watch 5208T from last years to give it some extra casual cool factor.
The blue dial will be worth a few k over the black dial in the end, but I doubt they will ever go much below the 58-64k level even used for either Govbergs at one point had the cheapest one (believe it or not) that sold at 59500 ish that was a black dial from 15. The 5170 is amazing, but not a direct competitor to the 5905p...the 5905p I actually think is more aimed to compete against the 5990 in purpose. |
