Crystal ball appreciation question 🌕

I wear my watches to enjoy them and not for investment! But it doesn’t hurt to know my watches are increasing in value !

From the above watches, Which ones you think will appreciate the most and which won’t? And why?

I am thinking that the JC Deepsea might be the one.

I don't know why, I just have the feeling that it is a watch that is rather rare.

All professional SS models seem to be appreciating lately. Daytona is still on top though. The LV is certainly giving it a run for the money though.

Market has gone crazy. I got a smoking deal on a very lightly used114060 a couple of years ago. Hard to believe the going price is 2K more now.

My vote goes to the d-blue, and not because I love it but because it is a commerative watch, an allocation piece, was released out of the d(blue), and its Rolex’s most advanced flagship dive watch ever released to the public. And also the one and only Rolex with a gradient dial. It’s a no brainer

When you all vote for the SS Daytona, do you mean Ceramic? Or non-ceramic?

I'm assuming if DoctorA meant Ceramic, he would've written SS Daytona C, but I am just making sure.

Daytona C. Given it’s history it’s most likely the one to get most notoriety and therefore be worth more long term

5 years is not a long time. It all depends on tomorrow really. If the LVC or BLNR are discontued, percentage wise they will appreciate more than any on the list. The Daytona C is already demanding a huge premium, I really don’t know if that can be factors into appreciation. Historically speaking, the pattern for the SS Daytona, has been to demand a premium, drop back down to normal and hold strong around MSRP.

Of course Rolex doesn’t always play by the rules, so they may continue to trickle watches out maintaining a high premium for the entire production run of the watch.

However, if the start breaking or bending rules, who is not to say they completely stop making SS Sky-Ds. Then that might become one of the most collectible watches of all time.

Anyhow, I have no doubt the Daytona is a clear cut front runner for long term appreciation, but again 5 years is just not that long, and the whole thing gets confusing if you take into account the average price Daytona owners paid for their watches (not MSRP).

What is the base? today's msrp or gery market BNIB price? Daytona C easily the winner if using MSRP, but its return might be worst if using today's grey market price.

Good point! I meant if bought at MSRP and meant the current ceramic Daytona

5 years is too tough to judge. BLNR, LVc and DSSD have the greatest odds of being discontinued I would guess. Daytona has the benefit of the doubt given it generally trades at or above retail.

If they discontinued the blnr tomorrow I would say that but I seriously doubt they will.

For sake of voting I’ll say LVc.

I think SkyD.

It’s a milestone for Rolex imho.

I voted Daytona but there is one major reference that was left out of the poll; remember the 116600 Sea Dweller was only produced for 2.5 years, was the first Sea Dweller with ceramic bezel and apparently the last of the 40mm Sea Dwellers. I buy my watches to wear and enjoy, but from a collection standpoint I’m happy I have both in my collection.

If I had a pot of cash to invest in a watch in an attempt to see a return in five years I would go SS Daytona,BUT the Zenith one or for less cash the preceramic. The new model will just track above MRSP no big return to be had.My prediction is that steel ZENITH Daytonas will hit £50000 within ten years if the luxury watch bubble doesn't burst. You will have to find half of that now for a mint one with box and papers!!!

I thought you had a TT SkyD. Haha anyways, I think SkyD will have the least appreciation value. It will depreciate in the long term.

SS Daytona C would appreciate more in $ value.

Rest of the watches down the road will go up but not as much. I am sure Rolex will introduce watches that might take some shine away from the Hulk, BLNR etc
