I think Tudor has been hitting it out of the park this year with the Fifty-Eight and this GMT. I prefer a dateless dial, but having the feature I wished they added a cyclops like the Rolex line-up with dates.

you can add one aftermarket i think but being domed i am not sure.

Honestly, I like the fact I can buy a new GMT from Rolex family with Aluminum insert and 316L. Options are great.

Amazes me as well. Commom complaint of the BB - "it doesn't have a date". New GMT has a date and people go nuts. Common complaint: "I hate watches with cyclops". New GMT doesn't have a cyclops and people go nuts. "It's too thick, I don't like the colors, I hate the rivets..."

Sometimes, I think people just complain for the sake of complaining. I'm in the camp that thinks it's a home run, and I'm hoping that I'll be lucky enough to land one later this year! Call me a fanboy if you want - if the shoe fits...

Like it a lot, only cons for me is the thickness & the max I usually wear is 40mm.

It might be too thick for me, too. Go into a dealer and try to the Black Bay 41 with in-house movement. That should give you a good idea how you feel about the size. I was borderline after trying it on.

Starting w/ the release of the first burgundy Black Bay (in 2012, I think?), Tudor really began blazing their own path, making their own unique watches -- distinct from anything offered by Rolex -- which I thought was a really great direction for them to go.

You could get a Tudor and legitimately get something unique and cool, not just a "cheap" Rolex.

With the GMT Tudor, it feels like we're coming back to the Tudor of yesteryear, where it's just a cheap Rolex. I don't think I like it just on that basis..

valid point. then again tudor needs to be related to rolex to thrive.

but i bought the pelagos for the reason it was unique

That's a perspective I hadn't considered before, related to this particular watch. The Pelagos was a pretty unique design, and the North Flag, while playing on the past, was also not like anything in the Rolex line-up.

The Black Bay series, however, has always shared some design elements (primarily the dial) with submariners both past and present, which is maybe why I don't mind this GMT borrowing some heritage from the GMT-Master II. Of course, it's no homage, with its bespoke movement, case design, font choice and hands, but I can see how some might not agree.

It's certainly not wholly unique, but then again, it's doing that "new Tudor thing" - using proven design ideas to provide a platform for production and technology innovation. That part I don't mind at all.

lots of different opinions here.. there will be some that like it, some that hate it. personally, i'm quite a tudor fan, after owning some rolexes, i felt tudor provided a inexpensive alternative to some heritage pieces.

That said, however, i do feel the black bay series has been overmilked, and perhaps tudor could discontinue some of the models. i love the BB 58 proportions, but the BB GMT, i found the snowflake hands were kinda overused, especially the GMT hand. but the overall look is nice, and i think it'll be popular in time to come. I just don't see myself committing to one though. perhaps I'll need to see it in the metal.
