I believe the calatrava dress watch line is nicer than any other watch brands.

everyone so cynical ... why did you even spend your money on them if you don't think that highly of them? Sell it to someone who will...

Patek's finishing is not best at all.

I have 240 movement myself and they look like these pictures under loupe, bad beveling and some burr around the countersinks.

If you think Patek has best finishing you must have not seen watches like Credor Eichi II, GF, Dufour, and some others.

However, as a brand they can't be beat, they know how to sell watches, and that's what they are best at.

Patek's finishing looks fine under the eye, but under the loupe it's another story.

im talking cases. I put a few above Patek on the movement side.

I honestly could care less what any movement look like under a loupe. Ive maybe looked once. Im more interested in what the watch looks like to my eye and on my wrist.

Oddly though, as much as Titanium is recognised as having the best sonic properties, only Bvlgari and AP use it – AP’s Supersonnerie Concept model, and a 2011 8-pieces LE Millenary.

I agree with you, Patek used to be the best at minute repeaters but I think other brands have caught up.

1. Current maker of fine watches (currently pretty average or slightly below among other big high end brands in terms of innovation / finishing / cost ratio) with highest likelihood among any brand to be around and committed to servicing your watches for the next 100 years.

2. Perhaps the finest output of mechanical wristwatches from the 1930s until 1960s (the golden time between pocket and quartz)

a. this allows for modern interpretations that have a superficially closer relationship to those golden era pieces. (That said if another manufacturer borrowed those designs and executed them in a better way i'd be very interested in those too)

3. Actually having a steel sports watch as a fine watchmaker puts them in rare company. They have had relatively good restraint with the nautilus/aquanaut relative to other fine brands.

Chopard may be an independent, but they’re not tiny.
Bvlgari is not independent, given that they’re owned by LVMH.
Credor is similarly not independent, unless Seiko’s suddenly sold the brand.

Okay. Forgive my defensiveness – thought there was something else behind the sentiment.
