A watch just like the one in your picture

I realize this thread is ancient, but I came into possession of a Tudor, which looks exactly like the one in your pic. Alcan, if you are still out there, can you tell me what you can about this watch, or direct me to some site or page where I can find out more about this watch?

We don't usually like to dig up really old threads, but as this is a very interesting one, I think it deserves another go-around....and a move to the vintage section.

Unsure of authenticity

Hi,

Sorry to resurrect an old discussion. I stumbled upon this thread whilst researching a watch I am hoping to buy for my husband.

I am hoping to buy him a watch from1964, which is his birth year as a special gift. I was hoping of paying up £1500 for one. I have been sent the details from a guy who sells lots of vintage watches on his website about a Rolex Tudor dual branded 9ct gold watch, case made by David Shackman and Sons. He asking nearly £1300 but it does come with original guarantee papers. Whilst it is a beautiful watch I want to make sure it's authentic before committing and worried about buying something that isn't truly with that value. It's dual branded and from this thread it appears that is not a problem, but being a 1960s watch it may be that it has been redialed. I'd like one original as possible. The only marks inside the case are the hallmarks and the serial number 24129 which ties in with the paperwork. The movement is engraved with TUDOR 21 RUBIES.

I will try and resize the photos so I can share with you later this morning.

1300gbp is far too much for any 9ct dress tudor of that period; with papers or not. Please get in touch if you want advice on this (particularly pricing/authenticity) as I stalk the vintage dress market ^^

Hi sorry for the delay. Have resized the photos sent to me so I can post.

Please let me know your thoughts on the watch. Was hoping to spend more like £1k. I like the fact it has papers as well but don't know how easy they are to fake old ones.

I really like it, looks really tidy but worried it is too much and worry about the originality. The seller says it has a new strap which is fine and as far as they know it is all original. I worry that the dial has been redone.

That is a repainted dial, it should only say Tudor. I would look for another example. The seller is asking way too much. I personally wouldnt pay anymore than half that price.
Rolex supplied parts for its Tudor watches but other than the few in its early days, later examples showing both brands are either fake or redone dials.

Hands look wrong, too. Here is my Tudor Royal from 1965, all original with box and papers, bought from family of original owner, for your reference.

I recall getting $150 for mine. It was a ladies double label in red and blue in Canada from the 40’s

I regret selling it but my wife did not want it at the time.

I love a good aggressive debate on authenticity of low value Tudor dials.

Love Tudors. Maybe Tudor should have their own forum on TRF?

Its a Tudor ladies cocktail watch that someone painted Rolex on in hopes to gain in the secondary market. Nothing more. Anything later than the first few years after Tudors inception is a redial, usually in order to deceive.

So does this one actually fall into that range? Sure does look a lot like some of the ones posted earlier in this thread.

That's fine, and those were pretty common in Australia at one time (1930s-40s). The seller's description is ok. In those days 'Tudor' was a line, rather than a seperate company (est. 1946) at least on paper, though Tudor-signed dials and movements existed. Here's one I used to own.

These were apparently made in 14K in very limited numbers in the late 50s or early 60s for those who held the title Distinguished President of Optimist International, whose logo is on the dial.

I never looked too closely before today, but I've made out the name inscribed, I Googled the name, and the gentleman whose name is on the back was, indeed, a Distinguished President of Optimist International.

Ironically, I went to high school with the nice man's daughter . . .
