Automatic vs Mechanical movement
As I understood you are connaisseurs in the matter of Panerai, what would you recomend an automatic or a mechanical pam?
The mechanical has delays, if I'm inside of the 56 hours of power reserve? From my point of view I want to enjoy the watch, to wind it, to be as an everyday ritual, so I prefer the mechanical. |

I personally prefer an automatic, but let me emphasize PERSONALLY. Get what you want! The same goes with me and crystal casebacks. I dont like them at all, but most love them. Watches are too personal to let someone else decide for you. |

Owning a few PAMs hardly makes me an expert, but here are a few thoughts ....
I own both manuals (289/231) and automatics (104/242). Autos are nice if you wear one watch day after day.If you dont have them in a winder, they become an manual anyway, after two days or so. Winding an auto is less satisfying than winding a manual. Winding the 231 is equal to horological orgasm !! ![]() Winding the 289 is a pain ,the advantage is,its only needed every 8 days !! The 231 is nice ... set, wind and go.No date to set. The 242 is interesting, with the JLC movement it doesnt feel like winding anything, yet it does. If its a nice model, its irrelevent whether its auto or manual. ![]() |

I have acquired several panerias both manual and auto ranging including 289,270,233,236,279,251,249,88,005,243,24,231,183, 210,268,308 etc. I wear my 236 automatic daily far more than my manual wind watches; however, the 231 and 183 manual wind get frequent wear. For ease of use daily wearer get an auto otherwise manual. You can't go wrong and most likely will not stop at one.

bla
its what you prever end off the day ,most my collection are automatics , yet they dont see daily wear,, so y;ll see me swinging my watches around to get it going.. especially when i take another then on the winder...
end of the day go for the watch you like, disregard the movement.. |

I have a 111 which is manual. I enjoy winding it and with the display case back you can watch the movement as you wind. Pretty cool in my book.

I have a manual 177 but, often think - "should I have an automatic".... Maybe you and I need to just get both?

Most of the autos have the date/cyclops, which I'm not a fan of. So, for me, manual.
