Cheap credit

Do you think that easily available low interest loans or 0% finance agreements or 0% credit cards may have had a large part to play in the shortage of SS Rolex models?

I think very few people buying Rolexes are financing them or are in a position where low/no interest is the trigger factor in getting them over the hump to purchase.

Interesting point but doesn't likely have any impact.

I completely agree with the second half of your statement. It’s always just an ‘added bonus’ if they can maybe get a 0% finance deal. That’s free money, and a savvy guy will always utilize that and invest what he would of forked over hard cash. Those same said people aren’t thinking ‘well I’ll get a new watch only if I can finance it, as I don’t have that kind of cash right now’.

0% interest OR a discount is usually the way it works.

I went for the discount and then checked to see if I could get 0% interest too, just to be cheeky. No, of course not!!

Then I did the maths. Better off paying cash with the discount.

I would guess people don't invest that extra money. But I could be wrong.

I've paid cash for both of my watches. AD's have always tried to sell it to me as a way to own the watch you want while being able to invest the money in something else (Stocks/business) which I'm sure some people do, but IMO most people already have most of their money invested in stocks/businesses and are now just using their disposable income, hence they'd rather get a cash discount than 0%.

I always charge it to my amex and pay it off within the statement month... I dont like to have too many inquiries on my CR so I stay away from the financing.. although I would think this available option would drive more sales.. just like most people, myself included, dont have the means to pay for a vehicle upfront.

I haven't seen one 0% credit interest in Europe. Usually you are looking at close to 10% for consumer goods without security.

Wouldn't surprise me. Lots of Mr and Mrs BSs around lately as a direct result.

From a financial standpoint it makes total sense to use 0% finance offers if you already have the money for the item. You are paying 0% interest, and by keeping your money in the bank (savings, money market etc) your earning interest on your money. I ALWAYS use 0% financing offers when buying larger items. I get to use the financiers money free of charge for whatever set term there is. I always try and set up auto pay so I don’t even see it coming out or have to worry about it.

The two watches I bought new (IWC Pilot and Rolex LVc), I've financed at 0%. It has nothing to do with not having the cash up front; it has everything to do with wanting to invest the money and earn >0% on it. There's a reason why the present value of a dollar is worth more now than in the future.
