GMT 116710LN zipping/buzz noise

Hi all,

My GMT 116710LN is making an intermittent quick buzzing/zipping sound when moved sharply on occasion. This doesn’t occur every time the watch is shaken as I’ve tried to emulate this motion with the watch off and it can go many a shake before this happens. It’s not a freewheeling wobble as such as you’d hear/feel with a Valjoux movement and it’s more of a very abrupt buzz and whirr once triggered.

The watch is about 4 years since it’s last service and keeping fantastic time. Any suggestions would be great. Considering sending it back to the mothership for a service but thought best to check with you knowledgable folk first.

Just to clarify this isn’t occurring every time the watch is shook and seems to occur and random, albeit noticeable and I’m quite sure it’s not always been present. There’s also been no incidence of potential damage caused.

Thanks

Hard to say without actually hearing it. Too much oil on the mainspring causing an abrupt unwinding once past a certain point? Rotor rubbing?

I'd take it to RSC or a competent watchmaker.

Thanks. I imagine that’s what I’ll do. It’s interesting how it doesn’t occur every time the watch is shaken as I would imagine a worn rotor would cause this noise to happen continually. I’ve just shaken the watch and it took around 30 seconds to trigger the whirr.

Wondering if anyone else has experienced this?

If it takes ~30 seconds then something with the mainspring is my best guess.

Or, as dmash mentioned, it's feedback from the electronic bug inside that's listening to your every conversation.

Interesting. I think it’s goong to have pay a visit to the spa a year or so prematurely then. Rather annoying as I only wear it infrequently so quite surprised this has happened.

Sounds like a dry rotor axle.
