I visited an AD in Rome today. They offered a VAT refund plus a small discount, for a total of 6170 euros. I thought about it long and hard, but in the end wasn't sure and decided to wait.

I purchased my Explorer II new in 2012 - about a year after it came out as the 216570. I got a discount of 15% and no tax back then which I was happy with. Fast forward to 2018 and I just purchased a Sub C No Date about two months ago which I paid full MSRP and tax which I was happy with :)

Buy the watch - enjoy it! The 5 year warranty from Rolex was worth it to me and the demand seems to be only increasing on SS sports models. Demand usually equals a price increase to match the market....

Does the 10% discount make much of a difference in the overall scheme of things?

I wouldn't even consider buying this watch from an AD without a hefty discount. Way too much depreciation on the secondary market and I'm sure you could find a new one for a decent discount from one of the TDs on here.

This model screams buy used to me though.

I saw someone ask about it at my AD couple weeks ago.. no discount! This is probably one of the watches you should go Grey and save, unless of course you want the AD experience. Good Luck!

These have leveled out and increased a bit as of recently. I remember these being in the $5's but no more is that the case.

MSRP $8100 with a 5 year warranty from Rolex.

Even from DavidSW new is $7775 and used $6775 - really not that drastic of a drop from new MSRP considering the 5 year warranty if that means anything to the buyer.

For that difference I personally would go new. Warranty etc would make it worth it to me.

Wait, wouldn't buying new from someone line DavidSW include the 5 year warranty as well?

Only a $325 difference in price though between DavidSW and retail. For that difference I'd personally buy at the AD - work on establishing the relationship.
