Daytona advice please......
Like many, I have been told by my AD (who I have spent a far bit with, purchasing two Patek and two Rolex watches so far) that there is no prospect of a Daytona 116500LN anytime soon - indeed they will not even put me on a list.
Have today had a call to say they have a 116503 in stock, which is priced here in the UK at £12,400. This is of course steel and yellow gold two-tone and in theory is a more valuable watch than the 116500LN (which retails at £9,100 but, as we all know, is selling for circa £15,000 on the grey market). Am I right in thinking that the 116503 is just not a desirable Daytona, or if I bought this whilst still searching for an elusive 116500LN am I likely to get at least my money back on trade-in? |

Most TTs lose 30% plus on resale so if you are buying then used is probably best. But you might as well save a couple more grand and buy a grey watch that you actually do want. If you want to sell it later you will be faced with a similar 20-30% loss.

you should purchase a watch your really want, not the one AD is offering to you
IMO, if you purchased 4 watches from this AD and you get that type of answer for Daytona 116500LN, it might be a time to look for new AD... this one does not seem to appreciate or respect your business 116500LN are not impossible to get, just those are reserved for VIP clients and high spenders |

I would buy any watch based on whether you like it or not. Not perceived exclusivity, or because the AD is offering it to you.
I imagine if you say no, it’ll languish in the window for a bit. The 116503 doesn’t have the hype the SS model has. If you like it then sure, buy it. But don’t buy it based on desirability, or the fact the AD is giving you some spiel about it being difficult to get, because it’s not. Indeed if you do like that model, look at Iconic Watches and Mark Worthington, where this model can be had at a discount. |

Skip both the 500 and the 503 and get a PM Daytona...the look and the feel is unmatched. And you get a choice of dials besides white and black. And...it seems right now the OF models are holding their value very well on the secondary market. My two cents.

agree
get what you like by all means get a two tone if you like it, but not because its in stock TTs don't sell as well and depreciate more Gold watches depreciate even more :) Only some SS Rolex's don't depreciate and its all a fad that can change at any moment |

Thanks all for this invaluable advice and thoughts. You are of course all right - I don't want or need that two-tone Daytona so shall pass!!!

I gave up waiting and just switched the bezels on my Daytona. Something you might consider if you don’t want to play the waiting game or pay well above mrsp.
Of course this only applies if you have a 116520 |

The downside with going to another AD is that you'll have to start a new relationship from scratch, which in the long run is a good idea but takes time and money. In the short run, I'd go back to the AD can see if you could do a combo deal. A Daytona plus something else like a diamond or something. See his/her reaction.

I’d pass on TT. As previously mentioned, the WG on Oysterflex is amazing

It is amazing that you have bought 4 watches in total including 2 Pateks and they won't even put you on waitlist. Wow.

Good decision. Btw, forget that AD. What kind of BS is that.

I'm going through the same mental angst myself. Ironically, the TT, a very nice watch IMHO, can be had for mere "retail". But... what I really like about the SS model is the Black Ceramic Bezel. I'm assuming Rolex might even roll out a TT with the Black Bezel one of these years. If my dilemma was between a TT with a Black Bezel and the SS with the Black Bezel, I'd probably go for it.

The bezel came from Ebay. I bought a bezel taker offer from Ebay as well.
All of a sudden I can’t post pictures on this site. Every time I try it says they are too big. I use iPad and iPhone and can’t figure out how to make smaller. If someone wants to see the watch with new bezel and the little gizmo I use to remove the bezel I can email pics if someone wants to post them. |
