Certified Tech at AD
My DateJust is about 8 years old. I purchased it new at an AD. Unfortunately, seem to have lost my paperwork, etc.
So the watch has stopped. Tried 30 to 40 manual winds, giving it a few shakes, etc. AD says warranty within the time frame I purchased was only 2 years, and now it's 5 "because they're making them better." Bottom line - AD has a certified Rolex tech, says it will be 10 weeks or so to repair, but still less time than sending it straight to Rolex. Approx cost for their tech to repair - $600-950. Does this all sound right? |

10 weeks is a long time. I would contact RSC Dallas and get an ETA on their service and a price. RSC service is $750 currently as was mentioned by a member here.
You can also use an independent CW21. Rik at Time Care Inc. is highly recommended by many members here. I believe he charges $500+parts. I would be hesitant to use an AD watchmaker unless you thoroughly vet them and see plenty of references. There have been many horror stories here on the forum pertaining to some of these "in house" watchmakers. |

I would call the RSC and see what their cost and turn around is. Time seems longer and the price is close to the same point though your AD. You also get a 2 year warranty from Rolex with a RSC service.

I would call the RSC as others suggested.
I wonder if the AD you brought it to would sent it to the RSC for you. Heard many AD stories where the customer expects factory service and the AD has 'their guy' work on it. Not suggesting that is the case here.

there is RSC in Manhattan too, so turn around should be faster by mail. But I do trust the certified tech at the AD, it just comes down to cost and turn around time.

If you lost your paperwork, it is better to send to RSC. On top of Rolex warranty they give, there will be Rolex service card and papers for you.

Ten weeks is a long time. Should only take less than half that time. Cost is probably about right. Use RSC though in my opinion.

There is no one here qualified to vouch positively or negatively about your AD Rolex certified tech, so most are advicing you to go the safer and longer route. Any references on your AD tech service ? some of them can be just as good as RSC. Even at an RSC I have heard horror stories about emerging service.

I had a horrible experience with a Rolex certified tech at an AD (not where I bought the watch). It was so badly botched, twice, that I contacted Rolex Dallas and told them the story. They sent me a prepaid label, redid all the work this clown screwed up and sent it back to me with their complements (meaning, I was not charged). The Rolex tech lost his certification and ended up being fired by the AD. "This never happened before!" the AD claimed. Bull.
Anyway, the only place I would send my Rolex would be RSC Dallas. |

I just got my black bay back from RSC dallas. 4-5 week end-to-end turnaround. 10 weeks seems high. Also, call them to send you a box and send it yourself.
