Vintage Rolex - Used Rolex Prices
by now I'm assuming everyone has heard about the vintage Rolex Submariner that is coming up for auction at Phillip's in November. I came across this article recently that talked about its potential value and what the final hammer bid could be. it compared the sale to other high end vintage watches that have sold like the Rolex Daytona Paul Newman. Any thoughts as to where this watch will end up selling? especially since it doesn't seem to have a solid or clean history to back it up. Used Rolex prices have skyrocketed in value the past 5 years.
here is the article by the way: https://edition.cnn.com/style/articl...ion/index.html |

Isn't that the one with service absolutely everything except the caseback because it was roasted in a house fire, and the McQueens say it's fake?
Frankly I'm a bit surprised it's being auctioned by a reputable seller, but as long as they're honest with the description someone might bite. If you are a huge Steve McQueen fan and 0.1% wealthy, why not? But the watch itself is largely replacement parts which puts the value at USD6K or so, without the caseback. And the caseback provenance (and authenticity!) are disputed. So: If I won the Powerball, I wouldn't contemplate buying this watch. |
