Watch miracles

Amazing story, almost a watch miracle...

All the facts are totally true and no exaggeration of any sort.

1 year ago I see my childhood friend, that I know 30 years, 25 years ago I went to buy an Omega Seamaster with him, he tells me that his dream watch is a Speedy, he was born in 1967, so for him having the watch which went on the moon is a childhood dream.

24 years later I see him one day and say where is your Speedy?
What Speedy?
Well the one you wanted 24 years ago and that you should have on your wrist.
Oh I don’t have.

So since 8 months later he had his 50th birthday, I told him he needed one and I was gonna put a good part of the price, his wife putting the rest.
I send them my part and tell him to wire to my friend who sells watches and who had a new Speedy in the bix with 3 bracelets, metal, leather and Nato, at that moment social services for entrepreneurs blocked 4000 euros on her account, when she owed 300, the money was blocked 4 months.
During that time he told his cousin that he was getting a Speedy for his birthday.

His uncle had died a few months earlier, and one day the cousin is cleaning his dad’s stuff and finds a Speedy, he called my friend asking if it wasn’t the watch he wanted, my friend said yes and they go to the Omega Boutique in Paris, they had no idea if it was real or fake.

My friend asks the director if it’s real, my friend or his cousin are not from the WIS community, the director says yes, takes it in the back and coming back says « you know what you have here?
It’s a real pre moon, and it has never been opened », they talk about the price, and my friend’s cousin sold him the watch for the same price as a new one, 3700 euros.

The other amazing part is that after 5-7 years it stopped working and his uncle just put it in a drawer, where it stayed 45-43 years in the dark, today it just came back from revision, through a contact of mine, so no depollution as Omega would have done, as they are obliged to take out the tritium, so the watch is 100% original, all parts were and are 100% original, in fact the watch is 50 years but was used 5-7 years.
What are the probability of that?
I think it is destiny, from a new Speedy it transformed into a pre moon in an ultra rare condition.

Its strange, I thought this thread would bring a lot more reactions, seems to me very different than the usual stories, and that there would be similar stories from members, oh well seems most people are not interested

People are more interested in threads about the grey prices of nautilus apparently, or the waiting time at ADs. Those threads are bumped too frequently IMO.

Have a free bump on me, for an excellent tale, Arnaud.
How ironic that a family relative had the very watch he was interested in, and its service preserved its originality.

Don’t worry about the lack of replies, many viewers probably appreciate the story, but don’t feel any need for their input.
That you posted it in the Patek section rather than the Omega one or Other non-Rolex means less views and, correspondingly, less comments.

A great story, a good friend and a lovely vintage watch. Amazed at the condition. The DON bezel alone is worth more than what was paid.

Yes but you must admit that threads about Nautilus grey prices are very rare, ones about pre moons are at least a dozen a day

The whole story is crazy, that his uncle had it for almost 45 years in a drawer and had not sent it in for service when it stopped working, he had bought it for the birth of his son, is amazing, he was a butcher and apparently didn't care about watches, had just bought this one to mark the occasion of becoming a dad, and that he had the exact model that his nephew, my friend, wanted is nuts. And also that social security blocked the money on his wife's account, saying she owed them 3-4000 euros, for 5 months, without that she would have wired the funds to my friend who had a new Speedy for sale, and he would have gotten a new one instead of this very rare piece.
Anyways the probability of something like this happening is so close to zero that it's really amazing that it happened the way it did

Thanks Ken, oh he is exactly over the moon, he is not a watch guy, until he got his pre moon he was wearing a quartz Seiko, not a Grand Seiko, but had always loved the watch and wanted one, even though he never put his desire into action, like he told me I am the one who made this happen, without me he would still be wearing his Seiko, his cousin having found the watch would not have told him about it, he just told him about it since my friend had told him that thanks to me he was getting a Speedy for his 50th birthday, other than that he had never told his cousin, or his uncle of course, that he loved that watch

Yes amazing really, he went to the Omega Boutique in Paris and the director took it to open it, and the director told him that it was the first time he had seen a pre moon in this condition, 100% original, which had never been serviced, he told my friend that some people would come from the other side of the planet to see and buy such a watch, the only thing lacking is papers and box, but my friend doesn't care as he will never sell it

Serendipitous story. Thanks for sharing.

And yes, the odds of this happening were almost non existent so it makes the story that much more intesting.
