Outsourcing major components always raise concerns, particularly when "heritage" is part of the purchasing motivation.

In the case of Aston, it also impacts resell value. The OP can and should buy whatever he wants, but many would be hesitant to pay big money for an ETA movement.

It might help to do some research into the history of Panerai watches. You will get lots of insight as to why they are the size they are etc. I personally find that my two Panerai models, although they are my biggest, are very comfortable.

I found out a few times that a watch/brand takes on a whole new meaning when you research the history of it. The Panerai has a fascinating history, especially when it first started out being a watch actually made by Rolex for them. And many of the models are very true to the originals, like font used on the dial, size plus the crown guards on the Luminor and wire lugs on Radiomir. Not to mention the history of the watch being worn by frogmen riding the manned torpedoes. The more you delve into the history, you realize that a Panerai is not just an enormous wrist piece with large numbers on the dial. Then you can also get into the cushion shape of the cases. And, of course, legibility. On and on.

The same thing I found with the Omega Speedmaster. I Never really cared for the watch. Then, years after I saw it for the first time, I came across an article. I realized that it was the watch worn on the first moon landing, which I watched with my Dad in 1969. From that point on, my fascination with the watch grew. Just as it has with Panerai, as I learn more about it's history.

Now I very proudly wear a Panerai, knowing about the history and the reasons such a watch was made in the first place.

Once you go Radiomir you never go back! People like to flip the crown lever but the Rad is the only Panerai

I’ve had four Lumimors and every time I flip one... immediately the need for another sets in.

They are great watches, I prefer the simpler models, my last one was a 000.

I couldn’t agree with you more on catching the “Panerai bug”. With Panerai, the fun part is trying to fine one that has all your needs and wants (Sausage vs sandwich dial, second hand, gmt, and etc.). I never recommend Panerai to anyone as their first “nice” watch. “Nice” meaning anything over $5K. To anyone who dislike Panerai, I suggest they try it on again or at least try it on once before dismissing it. Try the Luminor Dur too while at it. I initially dislike Panerai until I tried it on. Somehow Panerai grows on you without you realizing it. You either get it or you don’t. Trust me, I was that guy who would roll my eyes dismissively when I see someone wearing it. I thought it was obnoxious to wear such a big watch; I just don’t get it. It bothered me enough to where I started studying Panerai history and reviewed their product line. And now I really appreciate the design and uniqueness. Is it going to retain its value like Rolex DD, DJ, GMT, I don’t think so at this time. Does it have the refinement as a PP and Lange, I don’t think so either. But hey collecting watches should be fun. And looking at my Panerai (shall I say everytime) brings smiles to my face. - Who would have thought as someone who loves and collects vintage DJ and bubblebacks ;)

I own a PAM00347 GMT and its a fantastic watch. I have big wrists so the 44mm size sits well on me and the only negative I can think of is that it makes my SD or OP seem small when I change watches.

IMO, 42mm is a good size for those that consider 44 and up, too much.
