How deep is too deep 5711 scratch?

Hi everyone,

I noticed some deep scratches on my 5711 and am concerned that polishing will not be able to remove it. How deep is too deep? Would polishing via Patek servicing easily be able to make this look relatively fresh? Will I see my watch again with minimally visible scratches? Any rule of thumb in evaluating seriousness of scratches?

Excuse the dot it seems i’m unable to post links

Thank you. I know! But the other photo is pretty ok. This one just has a lot of light reflection. At least I believe so.

What are my chances on getting it restored through polishing?

It’s been my daily wear for a while

I have some photos facing front its not too bad.

ibb(dot)co/jfVpfe

So what do you guys think?

You can relax; a PP service will make it look like new!

Patek can make it look brand new with various techniques.

THANK YOU for wearing your Patek. Too many safe queens :(

Phew! Huge relief! Thanks, for weeks now all I see is that huge scratch on the boytom bezel when I look at it. Been tearring me inside. Now I can relax and just make sure I don’t add anymore scratches before servicing.

Can you catch your fingernail on it?
If so, it’s going to mean one of two things — a bezel exchange or laser filled, then levelled and brushed again.
It’s doubtful that the surrounding area could be levelled without it being somewhat obvious afterwards.

Given the state of the rest of the bezel, and bracelet (presumably), and it’s a regular wearer, is there any real point in worrying about its appearance?
There are only so many times you can refinish a watch before you jeopardise its original sharp edges and profile.

Yes, unfortunately.

Good point though, I guess daily wears are not meant to be flawless. It’s just nice to know that it can be restored to a somewhat fresh condition.

You can just have them polish without a service, I'd be tempted looking at that, but then I'd try and be more careful with it.

Are you kidding? Add all the scratches you can before servicing! It’s after the service that you won’t want to wear it!

That’s all character. I rarely - if ever polish any of my watches.

Just get Patek to put on a new bezel and it will be like a brand new watch. But I’d put some more scratches on it first to get your money’s worth!

Patek won't change the bezel for appearance factors, for that your bezel needs to be badly damaged or maybe after too many polishings they will consider it, but at this point they will just polish it...

That’s annoying, I didn’t know they had that policy. A fresh bezel looks so nice.

I called several months back and found out this same information. I was surprised. I know AP will do it as long as you’re willing to pay. PP will not replace for any aesthetic reasons. I was left with the impression that an overpolished bezel may not do the trick.
