116600 all day comfort?
A lot has been said about the 116600 since its release and I've really taken a liking to its small profile. I used to have a GMT IIc but I never felt I had a good fit and often times the crown would slam the back of my hand/wrist if I swung my arm down too fast. The watch was perfectly centered but it was either too lose or too tight. I also thought it was too heavy but that may be because I never got that perfect fit. I have a 16710 which I'm happy with and it's very comfortable considering it weighs much less. I'm wondering if I can get a better fit with the sd4000 since it has a glidelock will it be comfortable to wear all day or will the weight still make the wrists sore.

Unfortunately, your question regarding comfort is not one that anyone can really answer...
Comfort is so very subjective... Ask 10 different people, get 10 different answers... It's really something that, and only through trial and error, you will have to determine for yourself... As for myself, I find the 116600 to be the most comfortable Sea Dweller that I have ever worn... Although I have never found any Sea Dweller too be uncomfortable, nor have I ever felt that a Sea Dweller is too big or too heavy for daly wear... I have worn a Sea Dweller (1665, 16660, 16600) everyday (almost) for some 30 years and have never been anything but happy... And yes, the NEW Bracelets do make it much easier to get the proper fit...No question...!!! The 116600 is now my only watch and I could not the happier...!!! That's probably not much help, but there you go... |

116600 is a very attractive 'do everything' proposition.

I removed 3 links and with the glide lock adjustments, can't see why anyone can't get a perfect and comfortable fit for themselves.

116600 all day comfort?

I could be wrong but I think most people are referring to the additional thickness of the watch case over something like a SubC. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Well said and couldn't be more true. My 116600 is my daily wear and it is very comfortable for me. I use the fine adjustments on the clasp as needed and find it extremely convenient. I don't wear the 116600 with a suit. If I did choose to, I would make sure that all my shirts were tailored properly to fit it. I have other watches for suits and dress shirts. Try one and see how it feels!

The glidelock clasp is a game changer.
I am yet to own a watch with it that didn't give the perfect fit. |

I've yet to have any comfort issues with any of my Rolexes... and most of them are heavy PM. The glide lock is awesome.

What I am getting at is, if you think the problem with comfort is not being able to get a precise fit, the glidelock on the Sea Dweller 4000 will allow you to fit the watch perfectly under just about any circumstance. All you will need to do is play with the links when you first get the watch to find the sweet spot where the clasp is centered on the bottom of your wrist and you have adjustment room in both directions on the clasp. However if the problem is the actual weight, none of the current sport models will work for you as they have all gotten heavier through the increase in size of case features and all the links in the bracelet and end links being solid. |

Thank you guys you've all been very helpful. I realize comfort is subjective but I was just trying to get a average consensus. I realize it is heavier than the GMT IIc but I'm wondering if I thought it was uncomfortable because the fit was either too tight or too lose even with the easy link. If the glidelock is more precise and if I can attain a better fit I'm thinking it may be more comfortable...

I found that the SD 4000 felt just slightly bigger than the SD 16600. There was probably no major difference in reality and to be honest the 4000 sat slightly better on the wrist, but only with the dive link extension removed. I know a few other guys who did the same thing. The Glidelock bracelet is also very impressive! Very nice watch indeed!

The first day I owned my SD 4000 I found it very uncomfortable. Funny how that doesn't seem to materialize at the AD. But, if it had, I may have missed owning a great watch.
Thankfully, after playing with the Glide Lock a bit I found the watch to be very comfortable. Now, it's just not an issue. |

My SD4000 has been super comfy since day one and all I did was simply removed the diver extension and adjusted the Glidelock. It is the first watch I have bought sight unseen without even trying one on nor seeing one in person and I could not be happier.

Just bought the sd4k and had the same issue. I didn’t understand why since prior, I wore a watch that was heavier but felt more comfortable. Found out with trials and errors that the more links you take out the more uneven the weight. When ajusting the gridlock, if u see more than 4 “holes” then I believe you took out too many links and should add one. When WIS say top heavy, it’s more related to the bracelet being to light than the actual case (unless the watch weighs 300g or u have a 5” wrist :)

Count me as another big fan of the Glidelock clasp. It allows me to make fine adjustments on the fly to my SD4K. I actually use it almost on a daily basis. I’m sort of a gym rat. So, after a good workout at the gym, my wrist always swells a little from all the physical activity (lifting weights). So, I always need to extend the Glidelock by one click after a workout. Then, a few hours later when my body has cooled down (and my wrist shrinks back to its normal size), I’ll move/tighten the Glidelock to its original position. So, the Glidelock clasp always allows me to get the perfect, most comfortable fit under all conditions.
I don’t own another Rolex with one of those Easylink type clasps... at least not yet. However, based on my wrist size/type and lifestyle, I suspect that even on a lighter watch with an Easylink clasp (like a GMT II), it probably would not be as comfortable as a heavier watch that is fitted with a Glidelock clasp. As a further note, like many other owners, I also had the diver extension removed on my SD4K. So, my vote is to go with the SD4K! Based on all the feedback from various owners with different wrist sizes & types, I think there is an extremely high probability that you’ll be able to dial in a perfect & comfortable fit with this watch. Good luck!! |

No problem for me wearing the SD4K all day. I just love the watch. No problem with my small 6.5 inch wrist either. I'm also enjoying it on the Everest rubber strap. Funny to see this thread brought up after 3.5 years.

I can't imagine any Rolex with a Glidelock clasp being anything other than very comfortable.
The Deep Sea 126660 is my newest watch and has become my daily due to it's comfort & I am sure a very large part of that comfort is the Glidelock. My other watches just don't sit as perfectly now. |

Sold my SD4000 for a gmt2c. Could not get a comfy fit due to the bulbous case back - same goes for all Rolex divers really. The GMT has a flatter case back profile and sits closer to the wrist so less flopping about.
The biggest improvement Rolex could make to its sports range would be flatten the back and curve the lugs slightly. Like the yachtmaster case profile. |
