Anyway, I had always been a “fine jewelry” nut ; my interest in hand made diamond jewelry led me ( somehow) to start researching automatic watches . I was mesmerized by the idea of the complex hand assembled movements that Swiss watchmakers were known for.... that led me to research the various Swiss manufactures.... Rolex!! Oh my , the more I read about the company, how it’s run , how it survived the quartz crisis ,, how everything ( almost ) is made in house- and then I read Hodinkee’s article on touring the 4 Rolex sites......

Well I ran out and got myself a lovely little rose gold steel DJ 28 . This would have been somewhere between 2010-2011. While I loved the little thing ... I quickly developed a yen for a larger Rolex .... in early 2012 I sold the DJ and acquired a 35 Yachtmaster! Now that was a watch !! I treasured the idea of a platinum bezel ... ( I’ll always be a precious metal nut)...
I then stumbled upon a great site called The Rolex Forum ... and after “ghosting “ it for several months, I finally joined in the spring of 2012. I discovered an awesome community,,, made many friends from around the world.... met my True Love.... the rest is history I guess!

The Yachtmaster got sold in 2015 to finance some other pursuit ....

In 2017, to celebrate our wedding, Art and I acquired our “wedding presents”- mine was a lovely DJ 31, and his was an Explorer....( notice the word “was”)
I ( again quickly!) got the yen for a larger watch ,,, sold the DJ and now wear a 37 rose gold/ steel Yachtmaster.... now that’s a watch !!!!
Art sold his Explorer and now wears a Submariner no date ... and loves it !

Who knows where our Rolex journey will take us next ,, but we have many great companions along the way thanks to this forum!
Hi Michelle, very touching. And an exciting journey with watches. I enjoy hearing how happy people are.

I have a couple watches that need to be rehomed. I use the most sentimental one as a daily, and the others are locked up.

Sorry for your loss. I hope you have many joyous memories looking at that watch!
I enjoy the stories & memories shared that people tie in w/their watches. As other watch buffs on TRF we hope to pass them on to the next generation or a loved one. My DJ was purchased w/that intent but my daughter & I have decided instead to create a memory that closes our generation full circle. She doesn’t have my addiction to watches - Lol. We might use funds from DJ sold to help fund a memorable trip instead. My mother passed when she was an infant. My daughter & I are both “miracle” babies. We will bring some of Mom’s/Grandma’s ashes with to Switzerland per her request. I always joked as a youngster that I’d take my Mom to Switzerland...

I think that your current “wear” is important and must give you some comfort...

Hi JTL,
I was wondering what to do about a non-WIS daughter... mine will always prefer using her iPhone to tell time .... but you have a great idea! Use the $ from a watch sale to fund a trip ...... that’s brilliant!

Hey Janet.
That is terrific on all counts. My Mom would more than gasp if she knew cost of Rolex, even preowned! And her Bulova, or my previous watches might buy a bag of M&Ms, well, hers had a bezel of diamonds, so maybe more. hahaha

Incidentally, talking about chocolate, love the dark choc peanut M&Ms - easy to travel (no gooey melting) for energy while enduring long car trips.

Daughter's watch-financed adventure sounds perfect!

Thanks Michelle & DM.

My daughter is currently very happy w/her Timex already given her.
‘Tis not the value of the gift, it’s the gift of being valued!

Luv dark choc so I will check out those M&M’s - ironically the DJ has choc dial

Morning Coffee Shop ☕️☕️
I’m so in love with my yachty’s chocolate dial - Rolex nailed it with this shade of “chocolate “- it’s rich and it glows and it has peachy undertones in certain light - which compliments the rose gold !

So! Edible chocolate....., for anyone in Ontario- Rheo Thompson Chocolates out of Stratford! Oh my they must be experienced- especially the Mint Smoothies!

The no melt factor is a must for long car trips . I’m a road warrior to and much prefer driving 10-12 hours over flying!!
I need salty food when I’m driving- Xtra cheesey fish crackers and mixed nuts are my go - to 😋

Now you 2 have me putting them on my grocery list Lol.
Salty-tried CheddarChex mix for the 1st x - yum!
AGREE - that choc yachty is amazing. My DJ is SS/RG. Would like the see the CHNR in person! 🤗 Some TRF’ers may choke me but the AD called since I asked to SEE IT. I figured someone who wanted to buy it should’ve had that 1st call.
My piggy bank is QUITE empty after last Summer’s binge. Haha But the AD let’s me “play” on occasion.

Have a GREAT DAY everyone!!

oh the chocolate is the top of the pyramid.

or wait, maybe the bottom, the biggest part :D

yet another area where the swiss excel!!!

Other than Ghirardeli, not a huge fan of american chocolate. I keep finding stores that have euro stuff. Milka FTW!!! Milka makes some fine chocolate!

btw, on the Melitta stuff.. you've ALL seen the brand. It's the same brand that makes coffee filters, you know, red and green box :D

It's just great out of the box coffee, perfectly ground. the house blend. (blue ribbon)

We do buy several other coffees that we grind in house.

Husband's recent favorite is BB from the coffee rifle company.

I actually love the blue mountain from Marshall's. very very smooth and very affordable too.

There is also the 1820 Reserva, from Costa Rica. nom nom nom.

Yeah, i could live off Chocolate and Coffee.

Lavazza espresso super crema currently in the espresso maker.

Oh and while in San Diego last week, sensui suggested i try coffee at steady state. Amazing. and for the first time, i could actually taste the fruit and the cocoa, while still drinking black, unflavored coffee.

I <3 coffee!

Ok one last post for tonight...

We’re watching the US Open these evenings... and probably the most entertaining aspect is watching to see what Chris Everet is sporting on her wrist when she’s commentating!
First I saw a whit gold Daytona;
Second night - a gold president
Tonight- a solid rose gold Daytona- that would be my dream watch I think !
But I’d want to learn how to use all the buttons and gadgets on it !

Cheers Coffee Shop 🥂( its after 5 pm!)

Hi All: All the pics are reminding me that I have got to start getting myself psyched up for my long, annual trip coming up.

While I stash my favorite bags of snacks, I also have healthy stuff.
I pack a cooler with cut celery, baby carrots and pea snaps for nibbling as well. For long trips, I rarely stop for a meal, because it takes too much time and can make me sleepy. (Need to cover 2700 miles in 3 days). I carry most of my munchies (variety of nuts) and water/milk/drinks. I do stop frequently for fuel to walk around; never rest stops anymore.

One of my favorite sandwiches is a Denver on toasted wheat "to go", that's about as much as I will eat during the day, aside from a little meal when I stop for a motel. For coffee, I get it where I stop. And some places serve the most caustic stuff, even if its fresh... So, I then choose decaf, hoping it will taste better. hahaha.... most times, ends up being a stomach churner, too..

Re: rose gold watches... I tried a couple on, but still prefer the YG - looks better on me. My daily is a YG DD, very sentimental.

Anyway, Friday is here! Happy anticipations for a great weekend, y'all!

I usually pack a variety of snacks for the trip too. we used to travel a lot for racing.

My husband left on my bd to DRIVE to california and help a friend of his on a big racing weekend. He's still driving
All that, in a sprinter van.

we all told him to fly, but nope, he said he's driving.

Oh, and he didn't take any snacks. None.

I even told him to take the generator and a coffeemaker with a thermos carafe. He could have had home made coffee all day, but nope. Sigh. He says it's a long trip.

I probably wouldn't mind in a car, with audiobooks (i LOVE audiobooks) but still, it's a long trip.

Rose gold...
I haven't worn gold in many many years, except occasionally gramma's ring.

I was never too keen on rosegold, until i tried the yachtmaster and was surprised how much i loved it.

I'll stick to SS and WG for now, but that watch was a stunner.

On my first cup of coffee. This morning, it is americano, lavazza super crema

Have a wonderful friday!! and it's a long weekend too!!

You are road warriors ladies!!!
BBL- do you have trouble bringing fruits and vegetables into Canada?
I know that coming into the States, carrot sticks might get in .... but they’re very picky about everything else!
SG- I’d love to hear about your racing passion!

BBL- your daily watch is a stunner ; I don’t think those precious metal day-dates will ever slip silently into the shadows....

Rolex’s rose gold is so gorgeous- it looks definitely rosier then other rose gold watch brands to!

Everyone have a happy and safe long weekend,
Cheers ☕️☕️

I automatically ditch the uneaten vegs/fruits before border crossing. From border to my destination is about 4 hrs on day 3.

My daily is a constant because of the spirit within it.

Hi Coffee Shop!

My oh my...I’d be embarrassed to even say when my last road trip was beyond 2 hrs.

Long read ahead...grab your preferred beverage & munchies if you wish to proceed! LOL

DM, I agree, your daily watch is FANTASTIC for all the right reasons! My Mom proudly wore my Dad’s $30-40 jobbie after his passing and treated it like rare fine jewelry. Yes, she would’ve fainted if she only knew... I think their like fine art ...a part of me would like to see if I could take one apart and put it back together. What is your annual trip?

* SHOUT OUT TO BAS & VANESSA! What a special talent you two have!

Michelle - I may have come across like a pompous ars saying “my AD” & listed all the brands I’ve flipped... Not the case, just had 2 significant events that led me into the AD last year. The sales associate & I made a personal connection. There are not on commission...ultimately I wrote the owner (sm family business) a nice letter commending her. So...she lets me “play & drool”.

In regards to the CHNR I told her to let an actual buyer have the experience of being the 1st to grub their hands over it. Sigh...if it counts I have tried on the Platona. LOL

SG - if only I could road trip it to have cake/coffee I would. To bring the “necessary items” with for all of us to enjoy I’ll have to figure out a way to get that Ben & Jerry’s by the TSA. THE flight would only be about 1-1/2 hrs.!!! Hmm...a TRF gtg in the future making???

I’ve read you have some new wheels that could make it to the “arrival station” at the airport
My ‘09 VW is my favorite car at this point since VW replaced ALL the panels and parts that had ANY rust last summer. Has 81,000 miles and with that German engineering I hope to drive it for many many more years. That would let me buy more watches...hey there I go again!!! TRF IS DANGEROUS.

So! Who else can we make a SHOUT OUT TO...to keep this coffee shop alive & going. I enjoy the conversations & the fact TRF has such nice folks that “get” our WIS addiction/hobby.

Before I sign off for the weekend I’ll share I tried a new class at the YMCA today since the pool was drained...didn’t check the schedule...and discovered my body does NOT bend like others in yoga class!

Enjoy the weekend folks!!!

I am covered up with making spaces for a change over in contractors next week. It was crazy these last few days, so hopefully winding down within the next few weeks.

Have a great weekend everybody! I'll be surrounded with boxes on Labor Day - how fitting!

Cheers,
DM

Michelle,

Racing and track riding for full 10 years. Last year my husband had a smaller spill, but while sliding, got hit by another rider. Traumatic brain injury, fractured neck, spinal cord injury. All in all, very fortunate. Still recovering but doing phenomenal.
So, we retired from racing and riding. For the most part :p
I rode earlier this year. It was a women only event (i call it estro fest)

Here is a video from a few years ago. I make at least one appearance around 3:10

And i started buying watches :D

And recently some hot wheels :)
JT, yep, ready to pick you all up, but one at a time

DM, yep, Labor Day. Won't be much different here.. always work.

Oh, and husband made it to California!!

Have a wonderful weekend y'all!!!
