truth is, I believe there's a gasket - there may also be a silicone sealant as well and it has to be tightened to 45lb torque as well I think. So I wouldn't do it without the proper tools and replacement gasket as well. |

As Dave says...Depends on if you put the case back back on...
There is an "O" ring that seals up the back. As long as you put it back on correctly, there is absolutelyl no reason why it would leak. There is no other sealant, although the "O" ring is coated with silicone grease (not sealant) or oil.. Here is what it looks like.. Almost any whatchmaker can pressure check your case to ensure watertightness..

very nice pics! Is that spinny thing with the spring made of gold or brass, perchance? I don't mean the winding rotor btw!

It is likely neither gold or brass, but rather an alloy Glucydur.. Glucydur is very temperature stable, hard so it will retain it's shape, and non-magnetic, perfect for a balance wheel. Both gold and brass would expand and be too temperature sensitive for this application, causing too much deviation to the delicate hairspring, which is also a temperature resistant alloy... Nivarox in this case, but the newer Rolex balances sport their own Parachrom alloy.
