a bund will bulk it up if you desire.
i mentioned my grandfathers 29.
the strap makes a huge difference for space on the arm.
sorry for the pic quality but you will get the idea.

watches are heading smaller.
the 20 something ultra hipsters at my old work place were wearing 34 and below, over a year ago.

you're just in front of the curve.
BB58 is a prime example of the size trend.
i fell for it..

enjoy the watch.
it's a fantastic piece.

It also gives a visual reference that distracts from size.

Is a good idea!

I agree that the oyster didn't help to deemphasize the size issue. IIRC, the lug width on the 31 mm DJ is 18 mm. If you can find a genuine alligator or crocodile strap in that size I think that you can really amplify the dress character of the watch we have been talking about. Sort of emulating the look of that PP Calatrava several posts before. Again, the scraping against the case stops after a certain amount of material has been lost, then you can use black magic marker to hide the scar. You'll be able to see it if you look closely but no one else will.

Yes the oyster bracelet did you no favor here. With the leather strap it looked like a vintage male watch. I would buy a bunch of different leather straps, nato straps and what not straps and wear it on those.

So I went to a watch store and picked up a fairly cheap brown leather strap. It looks ten times better in my opinion and I think it gives the watch a more classical vintage look with a modern flare. Eventually I'll probably get a really nice brown leather strap since it just looks so much better than on the oyster bracelet or the black leather strap. I'm comfortable wearing this watch on this strap and think it now looks like more of a style choice that a ladies watch. Some photos:

Wow! That brown really makes the watch. Excellent choice, in my opinion. I'd wear that one everyday.

It's just a watch. I was left a gold pocket watch and ebony cane, both expensive in their day, and I'm not exactly hitting up the town wearing those with a top hat and tails! There's a lot of wishful thinking around here that the big money everyone is spending on these watches is going to translate into generations of enthusiastic wear, but style and taste change way too much to predict the future. Heck, the Apple Watch is already the biggest selling watch in the world after only a few years, so who knows what people will be wearing several decades down the road.

I'm totally fine with 34mm, and I'm not a small guy. 31mm would be pushing it for me, but I could see it maybe working on some men.

Very good choice with the brown strap. I have several vintage pieces with smaller dials but tend to stay at 34 or bigger.

For what it’s worth, two of my favourite watches are 32mm and 31mm respectively:
-Movado Esperanza
-Piaget Dancer

I wouldn’t change a single thing about them even if I could. (Except getting the Movado in solid gold - that’s about it!)
