You evidently haven't been looking in the right places.

So what do you have and what have you been looking at?

Unfortunately Photobucket isn't currently working or I might be a bit better at enabling you.

Actually tis the season where I would be looking for spring and summer now. Typically I would have shopped for fall and winter much earlier in the year. Much easier to get those MTOs and Pre-Orders in time for fall and winter that way.

To be honest if nothing moves me then it's best not to force it. Generally at those times better to just pass and not end up with something I never really wanted to begin with.

Ralph Lauren Polo which I believe are C&J's in black chukka and dark brown high boot, C&J Conistons in Tan Scotch Country Grain. Generally like the shorter style boots like Indy or Chukka. Looking for something in a light tan short style. Prefer a textured leather--pebbled or grainy. May consider suede.
I do like the Red Wing Weekender in Cooper for something casual and will order those today, but looking for something a little dressier and lighter in color. Alden makes a Chukka and Indy in a Tan Country Grain which I really like but they just are a touch blocky.

C&J are good for me. Know them, they fit me well and IMO are well made and durable.

Fit and comfort are extremely important. C&J does have a bit more to offer than what's just on the Ralph Lauren website and there are other venders in the US that sell C&J besides Ralph Lauren. I would actually refer to the C&J website first to see what all they offer. Been to long since I've looked but they do have a good deal to offer. Personally I found it a bit to limiting to stick with just one brand. If you venture out a bit you may just find something more appealing.

Thanks Dan. No hurry and I have spend time at CJ and EG and a couple other sites.

Since we’re on C&Js, what’s with the pricing between US and rest of the world? The NY store is priced a good % higher than other retailers last I checked.

Not uncommon.

A few years ago that was the same for Edward Green. In fact there was such a difference anybody in the know purchased their EGs from Switzerland and a retailer called Skoaktiebolaget. Unfortunately EG eventually caved under pressure from retailers in the States and changed their policy so those retailers could no longer be undercut. Boy those were the days. Just glad I did the majority of my buying back in the day.

Thing is I'm sure some of that can be attributed to higher rent in New York, custom fees, and shipping as well.

Anyhow, it's not entirely impossible to purchase shoes from overseas and sometimes save a bit as well. Before doing so however you might want to make sure your comfortable with the process and any special considerations such as custom fees and what you would do in case you receive something your not happy with. Personally I have purchased numerous items from overseas and not experienced any issues so far.

I heard you will save between 20 and 30% buying C&J in Europe. Mostly from the VAT refund you can get. So, when I am in Paris next week, I plan on picking up a pair or two.

I have a few, I prefer Carmina, but my RM Williams is in a sad state so I’m gonna look at a pair of C&J Chepstow today.

I have a few from Carmina and they’re nice. However if you get into C&J and especially their Handgrade Line you”lol see a bit of a noticeable difference.

Frankly I prefer Carmina over Alden and definitely over Allen Edmonds.

Good luck, and let us know how it goes.

I had a pair of Shipton & Henage Fitzroy, which were rebranded C&J last 236 I think. I don’t know if they were any lesser than the benchgrade C&J. Anyway they were too small and I gave them away. I just bought a new pair of Chepstow country grain, feels great so far

C&J makes shoes under a couple of different brand names. They also make shoes under the Peal & Co brand for Brooks Brothers. They also sold boots through Brooks Brothers under the C&J brand. The Northcote in Cordovan if I remeber correctly is considered hand grade and the pricing for cordovan and that particular line of shoes reflected that. It seemed to me there was a slight difference between the Peal & Co brand and the benchgrade versions with the Peal & Co not being quite as nice.

Congrats on your new boots!!

C&J makes some of the nicest boots if you ask me.

Anybody know what happened to Nick and Bespoke-England? He was running G&G's MTO page and that has gone dead too.

I used to visit the site every once in awhile and especially when the John Lobb seconds were advertised but never purchased from him. I remember once he had a sale and it took him awhile to get back with at least a few of his customers.

Have you checked Styleforum as they usually keep up with the latest coming and goings on these things?

I would probably take an extra empty suitcase and try to fill it up with shoes. 20-30% is great.

I'm heading over to the NYC store in a bit. Hoping they have what I'm interested in.

I searched it, but he has so many mentions it would take a week to sort through it all.

I remember that sale. He was a one man show, and it took a couple weeks to ship to everyone. I got my stuff in three days, but a lot of US based SF people were miffed that it took so long.

Yeah, and I could be mistaken but I thought there was one specific thread devoted to Bespoke.

None of the search hits are less than a year old. Nick A was "last seen" November 2016.

G&G cancelled his contract or it expired so he no longer sells G&G. I think he closed his business since he could no longer get a lot of shoes.

He's back to being a designated shopper, I guess. I met him in Dubai a few years ago. Before the shoe gig he was a professional shopper. He traveled the world sourcing high end items for wealthy clients.

It would be nice if G&G could rebuild the MTO page on their site.
