It happened with my local Tourneau as well. Sales Associate texted me a pic of the Tudor GMT Pepsi.

I drove straight there with no intention to buy it. But, upon seeing it, I bought it.

He then told me he texted 6 others the same message at the same time. They were all ahead of me on the "List."

I felt bad for the others, but sometimes things just go my way.

I never liked Tourneau and will never buy anything from them. The sales people in Tourneau NYC are like vultures - as soon as you walk in the door there's like 2-3 people literally stalking you wherever you go. You can feel them breathing down your back. They obviously work on commission and they are CLUELESS about watches

I think I let them change my battery on a TAG F1 once.

As for the OP, sorry to hear they jerked you around. What was the sales person's rationale for selling the BLNR out from under you? If he had no intention of selling to you why did her bother giving you a call that it was there for pick up?

Unfortunately you won't be able to find BLNR at a AD in NYC. They are not easy to come by with the current SS shortage and most ADs already have wait lists and/or VIP clients looking for the BLNR

That sucks. I did get my mine from the one at Roosevelt field when it first came out. They had one in the managers safe. They were trying to keep it there but I pushed until they sold it to me.

It wasn't at Tourneau, but one of the dumbest discussions I ever had with a sales person was trying to explain how a watch that was losing ten seconds a day was not performing within COSC specs. He said, "Yeah, it is. +6/-4 is a ten second difference, so it can lose ten seconds and still be within specs." (Actually, his explanation wasn't nearly that cogent. I tightened it up for the sake of making it readable.) When I explained why he was wrong, his eyes went blank like something in his brain shut off.

I got lucky and asked while looking for something else. I want to say I was looking for the white gold Pepsi gmt but my memory is fading. I found the dblue dssd when it first came out by calling every AD within 100 miles. Found it at Lorilil in queens. Hasn’t worked for the new Pepsi gmt though.

It was a feeding frenzy. Unfortunately someone else’s person got there first.

+1

Sounds like the sales rep called his book and sold to one of his clients.

On principle, I would not be able to buy from this AD, but that’s me. I would rather work on a relationship with the AD that takes better care of their clients. Short term set back but a better long term strategy.

It was a horrible experience but im not sure there's much I can do about it now.

Does anyone know of any AD's in NY that currently have one? And are they all like this?

Thanks

In some respects you were lucky.
Back in the old days as a matter of policy a dealer i know used to call everybody on their list. And the first person in the door wins.
The quick and the dead philosophy in practice.

Just like buying concert tickets back in the good old days.
It was very simple, first in, best dressed.

A different AD called me the night before to tell me that a very hard to get SS model I had wanted had surprisingly come in.

The next day, I also had to drive 45 minutes to pick up the watch as many people also wanted the watch obviously. If after the long drive and they had done that to me, I would have been very, very angry!

I got on Hulk lists with my first, second, and third purchases at 3 separate AD’s.

First AD refused to give me a warranty card on the NOS watch. Later salesperson badmouthed me while hanging up the phone. I asked in all humbleness if they could tell me how many people were also on the Hulk list or if that was against store policy to release.

Second AD told me that I was on the list, but when called it would be with everyone else on the list and a race to the store.

Third dealer was different. I asked them to put me on the list (just like the other 2), in return they asked if I wanted to look at an SD43. I really did not care, but had the time and fell in love (knowing there would be hell to pay)

The Hulks showed up in the same order. I did not go to the first dealer as I was still mad about the warrent card. I told the second I would not waste my time racing to the store as he was either lying about that or it would be gone when I got there (3hrs from store). Third dealer said they could hold it for me for a few days-I was driving to them in 10 minutes.

We allow ourselves to be treated poorly

Used to hit the Tourneaus in NYC regularly years back.

Usually seemed to get a woman salesperson, and was convinced they were the crabby stewardess candidates, that were too attitudinal to get the job as the bitchy flight attendant.

Just go there for eye candy, buy online

This remind me of my experience buying from craiglist: I found something on craigslist and the buyer and I agreed on the price, when I came to pick it up there was no show so I called the buyer and he told me he sold it already.

Sorry but it seems that it takes a beating to buy SS sport from AD nowaday. Hope you find your watch some how. Good luck!
